Can't believe there's no thread on this.

If anyone hadn't realised - it's now available to download complete with deathmatch option.

Anyone played it yet?

I played the first chapter and had a few games online, majority have been lagfests, hopefully it will clear up

I can't believe how many people have forked out 800 points for this already. Unbelievable, by all accounts the online side is a mess as well (which is surely the draw).

 how can you have lag for Doom?

Online Frogger is more bandwith demanding.

Live = *****

Is this, like, Doom? The old game? *why?* Isn't it cheaper to get a second hand copy of Doom 3 and do more or less the same thing?

Can you play in coop?

Yea it is pretty shocking. I played around 6 games online last night, 5 of them were laggy, and the one that was smooth and was winning on it disconnected me :P

Well I'll probably give it a go, I know its old hat but isnt that wat xbox live stuff is for. Mind you, you would hope they had updates the graphics a bit like jdoom on the PC

I love Doom, but 800 pts is again a little bit too much for me personally. Also I think the multiplayer community for it will dry up very quickly after the initial buzz.

Mind you Live in general seems to have having problems at the moment so that might subside after the game shows.

Is it true that there is a Sonic demo on Marketplace now?

Yes it is very true and it is very crap.

Good god I am enjoying DOOM. Lots of fun in single player. Takes me right back. Had a little shot on deathmatch but it was laggy. Still the best 800p I have spent.

Loving this..played a deathmatch this morning and had no lag at all. It really takes me back...the surround sound really adds to the atmosphere too. Well worth 800p.

Can you use keyboard and mouse?

The greatest thing about Doom is the way it throws loads of monsters at you in one go. Very few fps games have done that since the advent of fully 3D shooters like Quake. Nowadays the emphasis is on graphical realism.

Yes, and apparently it's complete and utter toilet.

Nope and good thing too

Grandmaster

A good thing for keeping the playing field level with DeathMatches - not a good thing for basic playability of the game since mouse and keyboard is just so much better.

Doom is !"*D!J"D!M"D online.

Countless times I've played ranked matches, been ahead by a lot, everyone quits, I get nothing towards the ranking / 50/100 online kills achievment

Just in the past two hours, I've had 84 frags discounted (over 6/7 games) because "I've been disconnected" (aka they quit).

Welcome to Xbox Live. :(

I still love the game though, the control pad is the most perfect thing for it. So easy to control because there's no aim up/down which a control pad isn't meant for :)

I thought of a new tactic, when I get to ten frags, quit... hopefully it should add to my tally then..

Why is anyone surprised at a 3D Sonic game being total tosh? Last really good Sonic game was Sonic and Knuckles :notworthy

Would be a bit nicer if you could see a total of your kills to date aswell

SeeWolfe

Its a 13 years old game and at 800 points it's quite pricey
I have it on my PC, laptop, Pocketpc and even my Atari Jaguar.

Of course I played the first level demo and then purchased it right away. Damn fine game.

Multiplayer is a bit laggy and I wish I could expand the graphics to fill the screen and get rid of the status bar but class game design always shows. Roll on Doom 2 & SWOS

Samiad
29-09-2006, 08:29
Oh yes - Doom 2 - that would have been good (Doom & Doom 2 for 800 pts).

keyboard and mouse wouldnt work for doom

it was an original joypad game for me back in the pc days, you dont need to look up and down so the pad for xbox is fine.

Grandmaster
29-09-2006, 09:32
You're kidding. Doom was the original mouse and keyboard game!

Grandmaster

Downloaded the trial and was sufficiently impressed to buy the game for some old-skool DeathMatch. What a waste of money. The lag is unbelievably bad. Now I live outside the UK so obviously this is an issue, but if I can play SF2, Battlefield and Burnout Revenge with no noticeable lag, why not Doom?

The lack of online action in the trial version is diabolical IMO.

02-10-2006, 17:16
I've yet to have a lag free SF2 game too!

I havent had lag of SF2 as such its just that the response is slow once youve press a button

Is there any way of making the game take up the whole screen? Cant believe you have to play it in a box, even when you've set the screen size to 100%!

No the point of using a mouse was the aiming all around, you didn't do that in doom the keyboard worked just fine!

R

Grandmaster
04-10-2006, 19:51
Er, no, the point of using a mouse is the absolute precision you get in aiming your shots and crucially turning around quickly when you're being shot!

It's also the key to making the best use of the BFG. The BFG kills everything you *see* when it impacts. So fire the BFG in one direction, turn to face your opponent and he's dead.

Anyone got an answer to making the game full screen with on border?

Samiad
05-10-2006, 13:58
With no border on the sides? I don't think that's possible sorry.

Finally got the rookie achievement (50 kills on XBLA).

Now for the 100 (then it's 200/200)

I almost thought "this is going to be easy" when playing E1M8 against two others, got to 47 frags (two deaths), then they both quit, total addition to my kill count... zero. Now I create my own games with 20 fraglimit.... both have actually finished!

Grandmaster

You'd think they would have at least put in a 16:9 field of view. Also would it have hurt to put in minor graphics enhancements in a similar vein (with the option to turn them off of course)...?
