View Full Version : xbox360 vga or component?
What will i get a better picture on using my samsung lcd r7 series, vga or component.
cheers
I don't know, but I do know that VGA doesn't let you play 99% of Xbox 1 games, if thats an issue.

From what I've read - in fact it might have been on a thread on here just a day or so ago:
VGA: Sharper image, but some consider the colours washed out.
Component: Not as sharp as VGA, more vivid colours.
I think most people seem to prefer the image that VGA gives. I just got my VGA cable today (I don't have the component option) but I can't be arsed to move my 360 upstairs yet to try it :)

Washed out VGA was fixed with the Spring update.
Main problem with VGA now is the backwards compatibility issue with PAL games that don't support 60Hz (VGA doesn't like 50Hz that is used by PAL)

Does anyone think that this is the sort of thing that might get fixed at some point? Is it possible to fix? Or do I need to go hunting about for another connector lead thing. :(
So whats the concensus now, VGA or Component as ive just got a 360 and am going out to order a plasma this week so would like to know what to get HD cable wise.
Thanks

depends on what xbox 1 games you want to use. For the record pro evo 5 plays fine with the vga cable...
I tried both on my sammy 26" and tbh, at first the colours do feel slightly washed out with vga, but after a while you get used to them, and the picture is far sharper....one thing I did notice though is on things like pgr3, in some places the road etc was to odark to even make out the road in certain views, where as with vga this was never a problem....

Depends on your set. I've got a Panasonic 42PX60 and initially preferred component, but after the latest couple of Live updates, now prefer VGA. It's crisper and more detailed.
Looking at getting the Pioneer 427XD if that makes a difference. Think i'll go with VGA to start with by the sounds of it

I would. Lots of people dont liek it but they just aint set it up right. To me, its liek the dif between composite and scart on the old consoles...
AHA. that explains why every one of the xbox1 games I tried to play complained abuot HD VGA cable and 50Hz when I tried them yesterday.
Annoying as I wanted to play them in vga and the (dusty) xbox1 does not have a vga cable that I can buy :-(
Im probably going to sell my xbox 1 games (got about 5 at present) and put them towards some 360 ones, so its not really a problem for me

sure theres some trick to get them working....
I'm now using VGA after a year of component, as i'm saving component for the Wii.
I don't think it looks sharper, in fact it might even be softer (Samsung LE32) but it might be because it's a 3rd party cable. Still good though, so i'm not too bothered.
I Couldn't decide at first but now i definately prefer vga. i wanted both so i got the cooler king fan which has optical, vga, componenout out and a 4 way usb hub on it for 30 quid so i can allways change if one gets better
Just got my plasma this afternoon and plugged in the 360 over VGA, was expecting to go to the dashboard and see an option to change to HD (720p etc) All that was listed was various resolutions (i chose 1360*768) and its all working fine, but i wasnt sure that this was HD as such as it doesnt talk about it in those terms, can anyone confirm?
Thanks

confirmed, that is a HD res... choose your native res for the display to see it at its best. SD is PAL 50/60Hz 720x576 and no greater..

well Ive decided that the vga looks slightly better on my sammy 26" as the text on the dashboard looks fine....on my larger samsung the component is much better as the text looks very blurry......

On my Sammy 32" r74 the VGA does look washed out, but I think the image is shaper in games, but not on the dashboard.
Sticking with VGA as my component is now taken by my PS2. If I ever get Sky HD or a PS3 I'm going to need a good AV amp.

yeah I thought vga looekd sharper, but o nthe big screen the textures and stuff dont look as full.......tomb raider especialyl and the tress o nthe hollywood strech of pgr3...
After using component exlusively since launch, I've just switched over to vga and on my 32" lcd it looks a lot better.
Colours are vibrant and crisp and everything is much sharper.

theyre both good for dif reasons...now all we need is an hdmi cable that will have the sharpness of vga, with the brightness and colours of component
