View Full Version : [XB,XB360,PS2,GC] Fifa 2007
Well this came out of nowhere to me!
Out this Friday on Xbox, GC & PS2. 27th of October for the Xbox360.
Seems as though its out earlier then usual, anybody seen any reviews on it?
Will it be an improvment on Fifa 2006?
From what I've seen/heard on Gamer.tv, they say it's a lot better than 06 but not up to the standard of Pro Evo yet

You can say that about every years version.
Has anyone played this yet, or seen any reviews?

Isn't the 360 version a 'from scratch' game, and the others are 'upgrades' of the previous version?

Dunno why EA bother. FIFA will never rival Pro Evo. They just don't understand the game mechanics. Not saying Pro evo is perfect but it streets ahead of FIFA.

Yeah it is, plus they've removed half the leagues too!!!

Are there any quick d/l sites to grab the fifa 07 demo. Most of the places I've tried are painfully slow.
Cheers

I don't know - watching a video of the 360 version and they have finally, it seems, got a ball that rolls like a football and looks like the ball from PES
Maybe EA will finally start to rival Konami!

I'm thinking the same!! They also have four players on live together, which is huge unless PES6 is doing it??
I'm keeping my eyes on the 360 version, *might* be a decent footie game.

I picked this up today and my initial impression after a few games is that I'm impressed.
I still wouldn't say it can match Pro Evo yet, but it's certainly the best and most realistic version of FIFA for a long time. The pace of the game is more realistic now and the new passing system works very well. Even the commentary has finally been improved.
EDIT:
I bought the PS2 version. I haven't played any other yet.
I will be getting a copy from EA on release day. Will report back as soon as I can - notplayed Fifa for years so will be very interested in this.
I'll wait for the 360 reviews and opinions from Pro Evo players before looking at this.
The 360 version will also have a news ticker which will display live news updates from the real world of football streamed in. Impressive.

The commentary in last years game was excellent i thought, but then i can only compare it to PES commentary (i use that phrase losely) which was good damn awful, and they havent even changed it for PES6, its soooo wooden and disjointed i dont know why they bother. Would be nice to see Fifa add more than 2 commentators, if they had 4 different commentators then they could mix and match them, would give a load more variety and you would get bored of the same phrase so quickly
How up to date are the transfers? Last year still had Owen playing for Real Madrid + many other transfers needed sorting

Played it on my mate's PS2 last night. and quite impressed. Much more like Pro Evo now. Passing is less mechanical and straight to feet, and shooting much more improved, where even the best strikers cant always just turn and shoot to guarantee a goal. If you steady a player he will hit a better shot.
Transfers are up to end August. I think the 360 version is meant to have downloadable transfer updates at the end of the January transfer window.

Cole still at Arsenal, Gallas at Chelsea etc. I'm playing the Xbox version, it says that it wil update the transfers if you connect to live, so maybe the out-of-date transfers wont be a problem!
Pretty decent game, still, its no PES. Seems fairly easy to score too.
Small gripe - Arsenal wear white socks, this game has them wearing red socks! :nono: Very poor by Fifa's standards!

If your PS2 has online capabilities it will automatically download up to date rosters for every team. The rosters out of the box were compiled a few days before the transfer window shut so have a few omissions. The PS2 also has the news ticker while online. It's an impressive feature.
My biggest problem is with the new Interactive League online mode. If your opponent disconnects the game ends and you take the loss. It's bad enough when you score in the 85th minute to go 1-0 and they disconnect, it's even worse when you get awarded a loss for it.
Played it on the PC and while it runs like a dog for me, it's actually pretty decent. Seems a bit easy on default difficulty but first impressions are good. It's a lot more fluid and easier to pick up and play than previous versions. It has most of Pro Evo's basic moves and you can even map the controls exactly which is good.
Animation is miles better than previously but some of the player models are horrible. Sound is amazing, especially listening to Pro Evo commies for the last few years.
Just gotta see how it stands up after a few plays, see if it has the depth of pes and if there are easy ways to score like in previous versions. Seems like a pretty decent stop gap until Oct 27th.
sounds as if this might be better than PE6.
4 player on line has me sold. Just played the demo and can say I'm impressed.
Not played PE yet but the posts seem to suggest it's a dog.

Is that a smile for each of the maximum number of online players in a single game?
I bought the 360 for online gaming. I'm not a fifa or pro evo fan boy.
I was looking forward to pro-evo but looking at the comments 360 owners got screwed and the game is sub-standard.
From what I've read I understand there's no saving of replays, only 2 people per on-line game, plus loads more gripes.
Think I'll rent both and make up my own mind.
Well, I've played both.
I have both.
And if you play a game for it's replkays and the number of people on line then FIFA is great.
Shame it feels nothing like football though.

Great review of FIFA on Eurogamer... Nice to see the PES reviews aren't the usual (unjustified) ****athon this time around.
"Ploughing endless hours into trying (in vain) to 'master' PES6 before reviewing FIFA is an experience comparable with brushing your teeth and then glugging on fresh orange juice. Your palette is so shocked and confused that there's inevitably that involuntary 'wince period' while your brain tries to work out exactly what kind of strange torture you've voluntarily perpetrated upon yourself. This is exactly why so many PES fans routinely slag off FIFA before they've even had a chance to adapt - because the contrast is initially so jarring, and why year upon year so much petty baiting goes on between camps. Me? I tend to appreciate both for what they have to offer. Neither are perfect, but both have their well-documented strong points - and it's, sigh, pretty much the same story when it comes to comparing and contrasting FIFA 07 with PES6. The main difference this year is that the former is better this year and the latter is worse, making the decision making process over which one to buy trickier than ever."
"FIFA 07 is without doubt the hardest game in the series I've ever had to assess, because in so many fundamental ways it kicks PES off the park, yet there appear to be an equal number of similarly crucial things that PES still does better than FIFA. Both play a great game of football, but it's no longer a clear-cut decision to recommend one over the other. If you could fuse the pace, excitement, licensing, online play, presentation and free-flowing accessibility of FIFA with the solidity of PES' peerless AI, satisfying tackling and spot-on passing game we'd have the perfect football game. Sadly, there's major room for improvement in the pair of them. Next year might be a different story. Watch your back, Konami."
Well, I just played an online game of Fifa against someone else, and as he chose Brazil, I chose the same team.
It was like playing Basketball. Give ball to Ronaldinho, sprint down pitch shoot. Then opponent does the same. repeat ad infinitum.
Awful, awful.
i second *******, played this earlier, not very good at all, and im shocked people are saying its good. It's just so not football like still. And ive even seen slow down in this game too.
Glad its just a mere rental :D
so you'll put up with a second rate gameplay so you can save replays? :suspect:
I'll be honest replays are not for me. I just mentioned it as an example of some of the basic stuff that seems to be missing from what is supposed to be a next gen title.
If it's lacking stuff like this it doesn't bode well.
Anyway I've rented pro-evo and will give it a go tonight or tommorow (also rented open season and my son has hogged the 360 playing that at the moment).

I had a go on our kid's Pro Evo before - thought it was a genuine next gen disgrace  He was wishing he'd read the reviews first...
And people mock EA for their yearly rehash... Why is it okay when Conami do it (and worse)?
Sticking to my 'not buying either cos they're both dogs****' rule, but take off your Pro Evo coloured glasses and smell the PS2ness for God's sake. :D

fifa road to world cup rubbish
fifa world cup 2006 rubbish
fifa 07 a little better but rubbish still
SO THATS 4 ATTEMPTS AND STILL RUBBISH
plus the countless other sports games ea have released on 360
yet konami still manage to put a game out with better physics and gameplay
im sure when seabass and his team roll out pes7 we will see you all coming to us on the pes thread

precisely Mr. Johnny. IMHO, if you love football, love playing football and love watching football, this is the closest experience to the real thing you'll get on ANY console. It isn't about how many stadiums you got, how fancy the players look, how flash the menus are....it's about how the game PLAYS football...not presents it.

It's a pretty **** poor first attempt though  Maybe forgiveable if it had been a budget title, but not at full price.
From what I saw there is not a single thing that can be justifiably called 'next gen' in PES6 apart from the price tag!
Still, best not let that alter your 'PES must never be criticised' mindset? The world might end if you do... ;)
As I'm sure I've said before, I suspect they put subliminal messages in it or something.
You love this...
It's not ****...
Laugh at FIFA sarcastically, regardless...
Smugly go on about how much more 'like real footy' I am to anyone who will listen...

FIFA deserves to be mocked - the budgets they have and all the licenses they monopolise yet they have spent the last 3-4 years desperately trying to copy Pro Evo. Yet despite Konami not really massively changing their core engine in that time, they still lag massively behind in the simulation stakes. Playing the 07 demo was just one of the most crushing gaming disappointments this year for me. I was really hopeful EA had finally caught up but they are still so far off :|
I bet the number of people still playing 07 in 12 months time is FAR less than those playing PES6 :notworthy

The review on Eurogamer does give the advantage to FIFA 07 for some aspects of the Gameplay.
Also, the comments below the review confirm that the gameplay has been tweaked since the demo.
Make of that what you will...

But doesn't that make you one of the people Eurogamer was talking about when they said, "This is exactly why so many PES fans routinely slag off FIFA before they've even had a chance to adapt"?
Like I said in another thread, devotees seem to try the 'other game' and when it doesn't do what they want it to do when they press X it's automatically crap? Add in general hatred of EA (which I know you aren't actually guilty of John316, just generalising) and it skews everything horrifically IMO.
Anyway, I mildly dislike them both in equal amounts (neither comes close to ISS on the N64 :D ) so I'll say no more.
Just irks me when Pro Evo fans say stuff like 'if you don't love Pro Evo you don't love football' cos it's arse all like the real thing...

What rubbish - PES has been criticised by us fans ever since our leagues have been running. We don't pretend it is perfect, indeed a brief glance at the reviews in the forum for this incarnation will provide you with a very mixed bag.
I could likewise accuse you of knocking the game because, you know, it is trendy to do so - what a rebel  - but the fact that there is a whole forum dedicated to PES while the attempt at dedicated leagues for Fifa equates to jack-****, speaks volumes...
Two comments I will take issue with.
One - Jonny's comment about countless sports games, and inferring they are all ****. They're not. Hockey, and Golf are awesome games.
Two - the comment about Fifa being tweaked since the demo. It has, and it is a lot better.
Unfortunately, a lot better then **** is still crap.
i haven't played evo before now, yet always had a blast on fifa games, every incarnation in fact. And after a week with Evo 6, i wish i had never played the fifa games, and played these instead, i think i have missed out.
So i have no rose tinted specs on, or any bias. However, Fifa is nowhere near as good as Evo when it comes to gameplay.
The only thing better on Fifa is the presentation and commentary. On the pitch is where it matters, and Evo tonks Fifa here.
I cannot sit in the same boat as those comparing all the evo titles, and feeling let down by certain things missing etc. Coming from a fresh look on the game though, its great.
Every Fifa game i have played, i have played for several matches and put it down, as it just didn't feel right, or worth sticking with. I thought all footy games were similar, but infact, they are not. I have learnt my lesson now :D

******* i hope you dont review your games like you read these posts i wont buy a game you review lol
if u read my post right you would clearly see i said that ea have already had 4 attempts at fifa and all are rubbish plus the amount of other sports games they have made for the 360 ( i didnt say they were crap)
to make it simple ea have prob made near on 30 odd games for the 360 so know the coding and way it works inside out whereas konami have made just the one
now common sense would normally say hey stop they have made all these sports games for the 360 so this fifa should be real good
but it isnt whereas konami have had 1 attempt and got the gameplay pretty decent but maybe not so much the gfx side of it
its like making love to a beautiful lady mate first time you make a few errors and shoot your load early but in time experience comes and you can make her scream
unfortunatley where footy games are concerned ea have not learnt from there errors and are still at the is it there yet stage

Can I just point out PES5 won the 'all nighter' award at the Golden Joysticks awards tonight - very apt considering I missed out on a lot of poon playing it late on a saturday night.
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/technology/6090532.stm
And my joystick ended up red not golden :|
Both these games are like women.
FIFA = Pretty blonde model with breast impants...Pretty to look at, well presented but plastic looking with not much going on upstairs.
PES = Carol Vorderman...OK to look at but technically a genius.

He he. This subject never fails to make me laugh.
I'm a 'casual' football fan and think both games are great. Fifa is more like what I see on the screen in real-life so that's the one I tend to buy.
It's a simple case of Fifa appealing to me most (even if it has got dyed hair and breast implants).
I've just received this free from the Coke offer and can categorically say this is the worst football game I have ever played. It's shocking bad, absolutely no fun.
No wonder they were giving it away free.
