View Full Version : Is David Caruso the Worst Actor on TV?

Having had the misfortune to watch him ham his way around a few episodes of CSI: Miami the past few days I certainly think so.

Simple answer is "yes".

Plus he's really ugly.

As an ensemble it's hard to beat the entire cast of CSI:Miami for worse acting! Every one of them is pitiful (especially Caruso, blonde trigger happy gun bint with the bad plastic surgery and mad as a brush corpse talking coroner bint).

Now, I'm... going to... look

at...

you...

and say something pithy...

...that I think is witty...

but will...

actually...

just make me sound...

retarded.

And ginger.

puts on sunglasses

Now...

puts hands on hips and swivels

stares down at Jimmy Smits' dead body

let's see you...

have a better comeback!

Ah, the Great Caruso. He was considered Hot Property when he jumped from NYPD Blue. Strangely enough me and the missus went through our bi-monthly CSI experience last night. You know the one, look in vain for ER/Sopranos/Supernatural/Boomtown (we've been doing it for a few years) or anything vaguely cerebral, chance upon CSI, convince ourselves it's not so bad and try to settle into it ... then stick a film on by 9.18pm. Funnily enough, she did look at me last night, squinted, pursed her lips and said "Why ... am ... I ... acting ... like ... this ?" It made me laugh. I must say, though, the original CSI pains me least due to the relative competence of Marg and Willy - they almost make me forget about that one with the big square head.

Anyway, what's with Emily Proctor's valley girl-cum-hicksville drawl ? I don't care if you're American, love, lose the daft accent.

It is mystifying to me how CSI Miami is apparently THE most watched show in the world, but then when you consider one of the previous holders of that title was Baywatch, it’s clear that a lack of taste is universal.

Even the Radio Times previews now routinely take the **** out of Caruso and his "acting". He is without a doubt appalling in CSI (and he has some stiff competition in that shoddy programme) and most other things he’s been in although he wasn’t that bad in "Session 9". Unfortunately his taint is retroactive and has rendered his NYPD episodes unwatchable IMO.

Weird thing is when she appeared early on in the West Wing's run she was pretty cute (although she still had the dappy accent) but now she just looks a bit weird, closest way I can describe it is her skin texture looks a bit like when a black person dresses up as a white person ala Eddie Murphy in Coming to America or the Wayans in *gag* White Chicks.

Oh dear. I've got Series One in the unwatched pile. I've been worried about this, remembering, as I do, the Franz/Smits combo more fondly. Also, I never forgave him for the aggro he gave Amy Brenneman in that whole internal affairs business. I know I'm confusing character with actor here but hey, open season on Caruso ! Let's dig in ! Let's have a pop at Jorja Fox while all here - plank o' wood that she is.

I watched the show on Tuesday night and it was the best 'worst' acting i have seen in a long time.

On no less than 3 occasions did the camera move/pan from a 'suspect' to a shot of Caruso standing, hands on hips, staring at his shoes... What's that all about!?

Yes, the Gingerman is a bad actor, but at least he makes the show (unintentionally) funny. The episode a few weeks ago where he was only briefly in it & the focus was shifted onto the other 3 cardboard cut-outs was just painful to watch. :gag:

I think Caruso was the main reason I hated CSI: Miami (although I suspect that even without him, I'd wonder what the point was of all that brand dilution). Five's advert for its imported US dramas showcase some good actors just staring at the camera for a few seconds, often communicating a lot without words. This is a challenge that even Caruso can rise to. (That's a lie. He can't even manage that.)

Ah, c'mon - he's not that bad! Like many others, I think he's pretty cool, certainly a match for Petersen and Sinise. I actually look forward to Miami more than the other two, to be honest. Poor Caruso is just an actor that everyone loves to hate since the whole NYPD debacle a decade ago.

Worst acting award should go to Emily Proctor and that girl in the morgue. Absolutely pitiful. Wish one of them got shot in the line of duty and replaced instead of that other guy. I was almost cheering when I thought that blonde girl was leaving the show at the end of the previous season, only to have her reappear in the current one :(

He is more of a detective rather than a CSI. He just leads the CSI team. NY's Mac is both a detective and a CSI. Grissom is just a CSI. Different U.S. counties have different ways of doing the CSI.

I can't believe that CSI:Miami is the most watched of the three CSI's. The original is still the best (although it is very forumliac now - everyone always easily admits there crime with little or no presure).

To be honest CSI:M is more of the formulaic cops show whereas the other two are (slightly) more science of CSI related.

Horatio Kane is one of the great TV characters. In the tradition of Kirk, Kerr Avon, and er, maybe that's it. Whether or not Caruso knowingly crafted the role tongue in cheek, we'll never know. I suspect not however.

My goodness, last night's season 5 opener was astonishingly bad, it fact I've not seen TV that bad this side of a BBC1 sitcom.

Caruso took his glasses off in the opening 10 seconds but was fairly restrained after that. The art direction and lighting was so OOT every shot was filtered and washed in primary colours to within an inch of its life, it was like a Tony Scott film on acid.

Nothing looked realistic, the favalla kids all looked like male models in tightly-fitted, brightly-coloured, spotless t-shirts (couldn't have been further from City of God).

Almost every shot featured FX work, from a cruddy bullet-time assassination to seeing an operation from inside the body. Just calm down and tell your story!

But the funniest thing was Caruso in a knife-fight and the improbable poses he pulled, he looked like a pasty-faced, Shakespearean ninja, please someone have a screengrab!

As much as i love all of the CSI programmes, and as much as i love the 'Carusomeister' (in that David Hasselhoff / William Shatner type of way), i'd have to say that the knife fight scene was possibly the worst fight scene i've ever seen :lol::lol::lol:

I *must* see this!

And WTF?!? It must also be the most shallow show in the world. They are cops, but have absolutely no problem travelling to another country with the sole aim of tracking down and killing a criminal because the justice system failed to hold onto him, not even a hint of moral conflict?!
I also 'liked' how the climactic knife fight just popped up out of nowhere, dreadful editing!

I was trying to think of an appropriate way to describe him to a friend, but that pretty much nails it! :notworthy

Quite appalling season opener really. The climax was particularly anti-climactic. Felt like it was a 2 parter that had been cut down. Some nice shots of Christ the Redeemer though.

& hitting on his dead brothers' widow? Again? Hey, Caruso! You're supposed to be mourning the death of your wife! :brickwall

It is a truly, truly rubbish show. But it makes me laugh sooo much.

Is this the episode with the helicopter whirling around the Christ Redeemer?

there are plenty of aerial shots of the statue and Caruso posing hands on hips below it.

Why can't I find a compilation of Alexx-talking-to-corpses clips? :(
Some of those scenes are funnier that Caruso's pitiful one-liners!

The best part is he looks like Bruce Forsyth at the start of the Generation Game.

I recorder it again just for this, he looks like he's auditioning for an am dram production of West Side Story.

The bit that creased me up the most was when the bad guy in Miami was pointing his gun at Ray jnr. He had a look of astonishment when Caruso steps out from behind Ray. But there only a little way behind is the HUGE shiny Hummer. He must have seen that screaming to a stop right in his line-of-sight.

Oh dear I was the last one to post here.

Last weeks Miami plunged new depths of awfulness.
Scene: Lots of glossy people sat around a pool. Shadow comes over. All stand up and gaze into the sky. Cries of 'Oh - My - God'.
I think ooo plane coming down or something...

Cut to the worst solar eclipse graphic I've ever seen.

It was like none of these people (even the CSIs) knew it was going to happen.

Even the Radio Times has given up giving it 'Today's choice' so it can be ridiculed. Time for me to stop too I guess.

You can't blame Dave for a solar eclipse
Mind you they seemed to have toned down the number of surreal situations in the new series (wannabe werewolves aside) so less classic scenes such as "burn baby burn" with slow-mo SUV explosions
