New titles, not so good
Too soon to judge the new charecters but they are playing Piz as Donut Mk2 :gag: and for some reason they played the old stereotype of the sexually active woman gets raped. Unusual for this program to pander to the religious right. Its now official that the first mystery is the Rapist.
Veronica and Logan were as good as ever and as predicted Dick was a mess and Mac has a lot of issues to overcome especially given her room mates proclivities then assault.
So the briefcase contained millions, very possibly $8m, and Keith was well payed by Kendall to escape from Liam only to be shot(?) by Cormac (sp) Well at least V got a new car. Bye Bye Le Baron.
Didn't think much of the Criminology lecturer if he doesn't recognise Veronica Mars, afterall she's only been central in two infamous crimes in the last 2 years. And well played V, lets make enemies of the TA who's going to grade some of your work, may lead to some bad luck.
Bye Bye Kendall  :( so no more eye candy.
Missing Weevil and Lamb and Cliff
As an introduction to the show for new viewers it works without diluting the essence down too much for the fans.
Forgot to mention that Ryan rocked as Dick.
I'm sure some of the other characters will return in future episodes.
Nice start to the season anyway. It was nice to see Buffy and Willow back at the Bronze!!
Being serious - I'm not a fan of the rape/Gail Porter look storyline so I'll be glad if it gets solved sometime soon.
Now I've got to wait two weeks for the next episode!

I watched up until the titles, those titles are annoying.
I'll wait to see it in full HDTV glory :)

How do you paste that code into media player? Where does it go?
*Edit* Scratch that. Found out, lol
*Edit number 2* Those... credits... such blasphemy. But apart from that a pretty good episode although i don't feel it fills the gap from the last season and sets up the new season as well as the first episode of the second season. And i'm not sure about the season mystery being about the rapists, if indeed it is, as that sort of storyline has already been covered in a singular episode from season 2 anyway.
But still, good to see some more VM

Can't believe their killed Kendall, I've heard they are doing shorter story arcs this year, could be wrong. Glad the show is back

I've heard they are doing shorter story arcs this year, could be wrong. Glad the show is backThe plan is 3 arcs, and each arc being shown in a continuous run.

We didn't see Kendall dead so I would assume there is every chance she will return.

Didn't the writers already confirm she'll be back at some point in this season? They're doing 3 story arcs, so I would imagine she'll be in one of them!
Haven't read the thread for fear of spoilers, so apologies if I repeat anything: self-control is hard, but I'm going to hold out so I can watch it on the TV. I'm so excited about this starting again!
Awesome. Ronnie and co are so great. Top episode to start us off; sure it doesn't have the layers of season two's opener but it does kick off 23 + storylines and contginue more.
Plus, and this hasn't been mentioned enough, Kristen Bell/Ronnie looks more awesome than ever.
Waited for the HD version ..... I agree with what's already been said .... New Titles are awful, Kristen looks better than ever ... story was solid, great dialogue & decent first little mystery solved .... Welcome back! :D

Nothing about Aaron Echolls death?
Keith in the cold?
Mac looking nice I thought her and Veronica would lez out at the end....
Blink 182 dude wants Veronica, who knows what will happen, was I the only one who thought he was going to go all racist when he saw .... Basketball dude (now I'm being racist).
Barbie.... probably end up like Cordy of Season one/two of Buffy... hmm might call her Cordy2 from now on (I can't make up names for toffee, but my memory of names is even worst, hence the need to invent stupid ones).

My guess is they will try to limit the amount of back story in the first few eps simply not to put off new viewers.
I thought it was excellent, though it was unusual for there to be a cliffhanger in the first ep.
Also, interesting question who is Vinnie working for? and when are they showing up?

My guess is they will try to limit the amount of back story in the first few eps simply not to put off new viewers. That be my theory and it appears to have worked as only 200,000 stopped watching after 30mins.
HHs: VM: 2.1/3; GG: 3.0/5 (Retention: 68%).
A18-49: VM: 1.3/4; GG: 1.8/5 (Retention: 75%)
A18-34: VM: 1.7/5; GG: 2.0/7 (Retention: 83%)
A25-54: VM: 1.3/3; GG: 1.8/5 (Retention: 71%)
Teens: VM: 1.9/7; GG: 2.7/10 (Retention: 71%)
VM built on GG's M18-34 rating by 23%, and GG's M18-49 rating by 2%! Which sort of throws a wrench into the CW stratergy marketingTuesday as a girls night.I thought it was excellent, though it was unusual for there to be a cliffhanger in the first ep.That would fit with the shorter arc, given its a 3 consecutive mysteries this season rather than 1 season long one. Also, interesting question who is Vinnie working for? and when are they showing up?To save Keith from a night in a desert where temps drop to as low as um err 10C

Frak! \o/
I suppose it's understandable that this show was a bit slow, with lots of exposition for newcomers. Just didn't quite hit the ground running as much as I hoped, although obviously Kristen Bell is still just as lovely as always. :notworthy
The bit with the sunbathing girls and the hacky sack did own tho. Could they have been less interested in what Veronica had to say \o/
Glad to have it back! Resistant to change as always, the new theme tune confused me for a while, but then of course I remembered that (a) it's just a theme tune, and (b) the writing of the show is so fabulous that the theme could be Dick's chat up lines repeated over hardcore German techno and I wouldn't care.
I'm curious as to how much Veronica knows about the Kendall situation: she knows that Keith could afford to buy her a car (and has he helped pay for Hearst, or did she wangle a scholarship through last season's juror?) so she must have twigged that he did something well-paid. Maybe she just doesn't know about part 2, clearly not a bailjumper as he told her.
The rapist storyline: looks like Dick is a prime suspect! His continual harassment of the ladies, his unclothed on-campus antics, and his maybe-not-generic admission to Logan that he'd done something -- they all conspire to put him in the frame (although I can't believe that he's the bad guy). I want Michael Cera back! (And where's Lamb?! Michael Muhney has his own credit now, so at least we can be sure he's on his way.)
Also: yay for BSG reference. And for those wondering why criminology TA Tim Foyle looks so familiar -- that's because the same actor played Lucky (http://www.tv.com/james-jordan/person/312625/appearances.html) in season two.
Heck, all this excitement has left me plum flustered!

Just goes to show ya! ;)

Teens: VM: 1.9/7; GG: 2.7/10 (Retention: 71%)
Can you interpret this for us? Is this good? My nightmare scenario is that the three storyline blocks gives them the perfect place to kill the series mid-season...
Didn't mind the slides for the opening credits but hated the music.. Enjoyed the ep, but will have to finish rewatching season 2 as the whole Kendall and Fitzpatricks storyline has already left my fuzzed up brain...

Can you interpret this for us? Is this good? Its OK, it needs to improve but its not totally bad. Also comparing VM to the rest of the CW output VM comes in at slighty above average. Other progs wll be cancelled first cough***runaway***cough
Rob Thomas has said that VM needs to retain 80% of the Gilmore Girls audience and in the key demographics of 18-49 it was close 75% [BTW 18-49 are what interests the advertisers as older people are less susceptable to adverts, or so the theory goes]
HH = house holds
A18-49 means is a breakdown of the HH figure by age 18 - 49 here, M18-34 means males aged between 18 and 34.
VM: 2.1/3 means 2.1% of the TVs in the US were tuned to VM, 3% of people actually watching TV then were watching VM
A basic guide is here (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nielsen_Ratings#Ratings.2FShare_and_total_viewers)
Enjoyed the ep, but will have to finish rewatching season 2 as the whole Kendall and Fitzpatricks storyline has already left my fuzzed up brain...
Same here! Only, I don't have S2 any more - could someone just recap for me what exactly Keith was doing at the start of S3, please? :help:
Same here! Only, I don't have S2 any more - could someone just recap for me what exactly Keith was doing at the start of S3, please? :help:
Kendall, years ago, went to jail for Cormac Fitzpatrick. They were partners in crime, and she took the rap. When she got out, she moved to Neptune where she associated with Cormac's brother, Liam Fitzpatrick, who was indebted to her for her jail time. At the end of season 2, Kendall received $8m from Phoenix (Beaver's company) and went to see Keith. In season 3, it turns out that Kendall wanted Keith to help her disappear (to keep Liam away from her new money). Keith did that.
In addition, she wanted to meet up with her true love Cormac, currently serving time. Keith arranged for that to happen, being careful not to tell anybody in Neptune (for fear of Liam following him). But now it turns out that Kendall severely misjudged Cormac, who was much more interested in the money (we guess; maybe he has some other motive) and appears to have killed her to get it. And now he needs to silence Keith, the only person who knew where Kendall was and the only witness to Cormac's crime.

Thanks for that recap as that whole plot confused the hell out of me. I struggled enough in season two due to the constant breaks in the run of the series. That reminds me I really need to order the DVD box set so I can watch all again properly without interruptions.
Kendall, years ago..

Thank you ever so much :D
That's how come I remember it -- we steamed through the DVDs (my second viewing of the season) in a couple of weeks about a month ago. :)

new theme tune remix was complete pap though.

speculation...
* Cormac has shot Kendall, Keith is witness.
* Cormac has shot Liam, Keith is witness.
* Cormac has shot Vinnie (who's possibly working for Liam)
and thinks Keith was in league with Vinnie.
* Cormac has shot Kendall and Liam.
* Cormac hasn't shot anyone....

Yeah - thanks for that. Does this mean that Keith has now done something blatantly illegal? The money that, presumably, bought VM's new car - is that legal?

JThe only illegality regarding Pheonix Land Trust occured when Cassidy blackmailed Woody into throwing the incorperation vote. But as Kendall the legal owner had nothing to do with that I believe that the profits she took were thus legal. So Keiths helping her evade from a violent criminal was also legal and his payement were legal. The possible supplying of fake documents not so legal.

Thanks - its starting to come back to me
I really enjoyed this.......back to the witty/sarcastic comments Ms Bell does so well.
Not keen on the titles and the new theme song, although I suppose it gives a more grown up feel to the show.
Don't like the way they seem to have totally ignored Aaron getting killed at the end of S2 for some reason. Still, good to see the cast back with one of two possible others.

They downplayed it, probably for the reasons of minimal backstory as mentioned above, but did still mention it several times (Logan feeling guilty, Mac & Dick's exchange, Dick's general attitude).
Thought it was great, except for the Keith storyline which I didn't understand at all (again thanks for the recap!) and how they've managed to ruin the best theme tune on TV today...

well i think the first is most likely
when he came to the door he said that Kendall wasn't such a great judge of character, which implies he's shot her
Great to see it back :D
