Excellent episode - very dark in tone, epecially 'Mirror Lady'
Sort of guessed that the guy who thought he could fly wouldn't be able to but didn't guess the outcome.
Also guessed about the cheerleaders father :)
Will definately keep watching this
What I enjoyed most about this was the promise of a multi-year arc. Wasn't this episode billed as the first part of "volume one"? I like to think that each season will be a little different -- say, discovering powers in season one, working together and becoming stronger in season two, engaging in proper all-out public superhero action in season three...
We have this huge disaster/conflict mentioned in the prologue and by the artist, so it'd be great if this was just the first chapter of an epic tale; something where the characters grow and the situations change as the episodes and seasons progress.
That's the potential I see in this show, anyway. Something with the story-telling quality of Babylon 5 would be nice. So I'll ready myself for the disappointment of a formulaic freak-of-the-week setup by episode six. :D

Me and the missus enjoyed this immensely, the production qualities and the special effects seem spot on, (the cheerleaders hand, urgh!). Top stuff, cant wait for the next one.
Didn't see that coming where the kids brother could fly though!

WARNING - HUGE SPOILER
Heroes Exclusive Scene on youtube - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Agq3b-1EYmE
Out of all the new shows, this is the one with the most potential & can run for years if handled properly. Fingers-crossed they keep our "heroes" out of lycra jumpsuits as long as possible, although, on second thoughts, Miss Stripper & Miss Cheerleader would look good. :n0rty:

Very good and like mentioned liked the idea the show had a long term plan.

Miss Cheerleader is only 17 :)
I could have legally married her a year ago, so all is good. :)

I had dibs on Miss Cheerleader years ago *cough* (Ok that sounds perverted, but she's been my msn picture for a few months).
Excellent pilot though, loved it, so many potential storylines and excellent sfx!
Deffo the show to watch this season :)

Enjoyed this a lot, good to see Adrian Pasdar back on screen - might have to watch Profit again now :D
Yep, not too bad, an intriguing idea. Though I could not quite work out what the stripper's special power was supposed to be :?:

oh look another heroes thread :P *shrug*
as I've already said, show looks very promising and I cant wait to see the next episode. Lets hope that it doesnt turn in to a smallville.

Yep, not too bad, an intriguing idea. Though I could not quite work out what the stripper's special power was supposed to be :?:
I took it to be that
she would 'hulk-out', bust some chops, then awake with no memory of the events.
I really liked the pilot, and would agree completely with the sentiments expressed previously that with so much scope to do something (for want of a better phrase) 'lost-like', it would be a real shame if it went the formulaic freak-of-the-week route - we shall see.
I thought the Stripper's evil mirror-image had a mind of its own & could leave the mirror to kick ass? .... Kinda like the DC villan, Mirror-Master.
I thought it was great and could be very interesting although it came off as a bit of a 4400/x-men melding.
The twist at the end was really clever and for me unexpected. I also really liked the international aspect of it, and the way they did the subtitles for the Japanese guy was clever and made it a more energetic scene.

I wonder if Cheerleader's mum knows about her powers bearing in mind her Dad appears to be the ''bad guy''.That's why when she said she walked through fire her mum started yapping on about it being a metaphor.
I guess I was alone in thinking it was clunky as hell (beginning scroll was especially crass). Might improve, but the pilor felt like someone had built a Scriptomatic 5000.
Enjoyed it and agree that there's plenty of potential in it, as long as they keep or increase the slightly dark undertone. If it gets Disney'fied for family viewing I reckon it would lose the appeal.
just watched this and I quite enjoyed it
looking forward to seeing where it goes, are the people introduced in this episode the main characters, or are they going to be forgotten about and introducing new ones each week

Just watched it and really enjoyed it. Sure there is the whole 4400/X-Men thing going on, but they put in a reference to the comic themselves so they must be aware of it so I hope it won't be too clunky. And just from the pilot it already looks a lot better than 4400.
It was ok.....some good stuff but very clunky. Great potential but we'll see.

The USA Today (http://www.usatoday.com/life/television/reviews/2006-09-24-review-heroes_x.htm) review is pretty spot on IMO.All of them speak English, except for Hiro, whose dialogue requires subtitles, yet another demand from a show that makes an awful lot of them.Yep cos reading subtitles is soooooo hard.

Yep cos reading subtitles is soooooo hard.
Indeed - that might well be the most moronic thing I've ever read in a review! I actually loved the subtitles, especially the way they were effectively placed the same way as comic captions/speech bubbles.
Thought the first episode was excellent, myself, and will certainly be staying around for a few more.
I hope Emo McWhiny was horribly killed by his fall but I have a nasty feeling he'll be hanging about for the full series.
I have a theory about Stripper Woman.. Could it be that:
As in Unbreakable, every hero must have his/her nemesis and as we watch the birth of a group of Superhero's we have also witnessed the birth of a Supervillain???
I'm probably wrong but considering the twists we've already had, it wouldnt surprise me!!
Yeah, good call bacon33.
But she seems too nice, although not nice enough to pay her $40 to strip
kippa2k1
28-09-2006, 10:04
I don't really see that being the case, its not like those 2 guys were innocent victims!
Yeah, good call bacon33.
But she seems too nice, although not nice enough to pay her $40 to strip
No wonder she's broke when $39 gets you 20 minutes of her lifiting her shirt up a bit.
But as we all know, Superhero's never take a human life therefore, Stripper Womans actions show that her alter-ego has no respect for human life which could therefore pertain to my earlier theory.
  :brickwall

http://blogs.nbcuni.com/hiro_blog/ <- (Super) Hiro's blog.
Does anyone know what the music was that was playing at the time of the eclipse? Where Hiro wasn't doing exercise and Stripper Woman was looking in a box?
Also is Emo kid must be the worst ever nurse, every single scene involving him and some kind of medical situation he's rubbish, usually just wandering off to do something else.
But as we all know, Superhero's never take a human life
There are plenty of superheroes who kill.
quite liked this - had an almost 'Unbreakable' quality to it, plus the ubiquitous HBO-like 'large cast'
I agree with others than stripper woman's charges are far too high - perhaps if she gets implants she'll be able to afford her son's school fees
also, spotted Richard ROundtree's name in the opening credits, but didn't see him - perhaps was the sick man in bed?
if so, I guess we'll be seeing more of him

Yeah, I thought the pre-title crawl was lazy as hell (I forget who said you should never trust a film with a title crawl, maybe it was John Brosnan). Which is surprisingly because Jeph Loeb wrote the pilot, and he's normally a pretty good writer (Batman: Long Halloween etc).
Other than that, I thought it was pretty good. Certainly gorier than I thought it was going to be.

What did you guess?
Good news for Sci-fi (shame they didn't do aquisitions when they first started) but how many people will miss it because it's on Sci-fi?

was a decent watch with some good production values. did not realise Richard Roundtree was in it and i would love for him to be one of the people who develop powers.
as well as the hero's hope we get to see the genesis of some supervillians
Better than expected and thankfully a million miles from the dross Smallville is. Some nice camera work capturing New York and other places at least confirming some shooting outside the usual Vancuver.
I thought the 4400 was poor myself, this had more of an Unbreakable feel to it. Hopefully there is an over all game plan, unlike Lost, (or those lying Cylons "They have a plan", pah!) and this will develop into a ongoing plot, rather than freak-of-the-week.
I guess Roundtree will wake-up at some point...
Just watched this. What was Cheerleaders dad. Must have missed that bit (someone phoned half way though it) so a 2nd viewing must be.
Also did not expect the ending when the brother does it.
It was ok not great but not bad for a pilot. Might give it a few more episodes and see from there.
But there are so many out now. Prison Break, Jericho, Stufdio 60, Heroes, Greys, House & Lost to name a few.
I actually counted how many American shows I watch now and it came to something crazy like 16 or 17! I dont really watch any British tv either.
Cheerleaders dad looks like the one who killed the indian cab driver, he tried to kill the guys' son (or so he thought). I think there was some other hint too
Ah really need to watch it again then.
I very rare watch Uk tv shows anymore. There are a few but no where near the amount of US Tv shows we (missus) watch.
So glad we have Sky+ now. And a dvd that can play xvid so burn the shows to a dvdrw and play them on the Tv as i hate watching shows in the study.
*cough* whats that *cough*

Alan - It was the XBMC - Xbox Media Centre. Dont think it's against forum rules as there are many posts in the gaming forum about them.
Just did not know what it was at that time.
Interesting premise, though I did laugh at the Chinese Back Street Boys (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N2rZxCrb7iU) (guest spot or homage?) in the Japanese karoake bar. Looking forward to episode 2.

Didn't know where else to post this (apologies if it's in the wrong place) and didn't know wether or not to start a new thread.
But I was wondering if anyone knew when this'll start in the UK?? I heard that the Sci-Fi channel had picked up the multi-channel rights and that BBC2 had picked up the terrestrial ones but I haven't heard when either will start showing it.
Any ideas?cough***http://www.thedvdforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=453435***cough

I haven't read any of the comments in this thread yet, but just a quick bump to remind people that this starts in the UK on Sci-fi next Monday at 10pm with a double episode.
Also does anyone else have problems series linking this in their Sky+ Planner? I've just added it to record and there's no Series Link option which is going to be a nightmare if it does this for the whole series

AARRGGGHHHH...my eyes, just getting to the bottom of this thread I spotted the words "killed" and "chinese"...
I have not seen this yet, really looking forward to it, I was going to post that there is no series link for this on Sky+....but noticed I have been beaten to it! Plus I was going to bump this for us that have not seen this series yet! (someone done that already too  )
Looks like they are listing the pilot as a film (rated 15) on sci-fi on the Sky epg - hence no series link.
You can series link episode 2
eye__writ
15-02-2007, 09:58
I tried to series link it last night and it failed, but then I tried again straight away and it says it's done. Will see.
Really looking forward to this, having read chuff-all about it.
I Series linked it from Ep2 on the +1 channel. In case anyone misses it they are repeating the double bill on Tue, Wed, Thu, Fri & Sun.
The onyl concern I have is that the info on the EPG doesn;t have the W which normally indicates a widescreen broadcast. If it is 4x3 I will be waiting for the BBC showing or DVD, whichever comes first.

Just a quick heads up! This starts tonight on SciFi.

19-02-2007, 16:54
anyone know if the series if Sci Fi channel are showing it in Dolby? and are they subtitling it?
It's a bit late now but there was a preview in the London Paper (one of the freebie evening papers) which managed to spoil the abilities of most of the main characters, in bold text too.
Great.
I'm up to ep 7 now but it was still spoilers for me, let alone anyone starting from the beginning tonight. Awful.

That's precisely why I don't wait for it to be aired in the UK - hate having things spoiled :(
Yeah my brother (who hasn't seen it) told me (who has) about that article. He's rather annoyed to put it mildly.

Believe it.
I watched the first episode and didn't really rate it. It was OK, nothing special. I fully expected to have dropped the show after a couple more episodes but thankfully it improved and is now one of my favourite US shows.
You havr to stick with it Ep 16 was by far the best episode to date. Easy show of the year for me.

I didn't really like the show until about episode 4.
The first 2 eps were written with the idea of being 1 long show, which is why it seems to get better as it goes on. But like I said, I thought they were a bit of a chore first but now I genuinely love the show.

Sci- fi channel got it's biggest ever ratings thanks to Heroes with 600,000+ viewers.
That's a few more than the erotic adventures of the invisable man gets.
I watched the first two episodes last night and quite enjoyed them. The series looks to me as if it is going to be a bit of a slow burner of a show which is fine by me.
Not sure if Nikki is a supervillain or not though
They are certainley making her out to be the villian.

I watched it yesterday after Sky Plussing it. It must have started early coz the start of Ep 1 was cut off, but I think it was only a few seconds and I didn't miss anything.
My verdict is, so far so soap opera. I think it's got the makings of a great little show though so there's no way I'm going to stop watching already.
Anyway, it's impossible to judge a programme too harshly when it has crowd-pleasing scenes of hollowed out heads and a woman nailed to a bannister by cutlery!! :notworthy
Mr Flibble
22-02-2007, 09:17
Mrs Flibble isn't overly bothered by the show, but I've told her it apparently gets a lot better, further in to the series - me, I'm enjoying it already, but I'm a sucker for shows like this, so love it!

just watched first ep, seems okay, nothing to grab me yet apart from people saying ITS ACE. so shall stick to it
tivo managed to record ep 2 before ep 1 which threw me for 30 mins of watching it , thought it very confusing then.
2nd half of ep 2 now.
IT IS ACE... If you aren't hooked by the end of episode 4, then you are hard to please.
I started watching this last night and thats why I'm so tired today. I couldn't stop watching it!! I'm loving it. Especially like the ending of episode 3 cheerleader on the autopsy table who then comes back to life.
Hiro is my favourite so far. The whole show feels like an X-men / Lost crossover (as a lot of the characters are connected in some way).
I'm upto episode 12 and it's superb.
I don't know why they are comparing it to Lost on the billboards, that almost stopped me watching it, but more happens in one episode of Heroes than an entire series of Lost.
It's more like a cross between X-Men/X-Files.

Not cut for violence or anything, but some small scenes and character moments weren't there, such as Peter's longer discussion with Suresh in the cab and Claire telling her mum she wants to know who were real parents are. They also seemed to speed up the editing in a few scenes.

The BBC were showing the normal length first episode, which is an official cut by the production team, as opposed to the full hour-length pilot which most of us have all seen.
So the BBC didn't pull another Rome - it's just the version they had or chose to show.

The BBC often seem to be a little of on their timings, usually a little late but occasionally opposite. I always add a little padding on my DVR/Tivo for BBC shows ;)
