I'm getting really REMOVED off with taking five shots at someone on Call of Duty and them then shooting and killing me with one after! My ping is showing as over 700, but I'm got an 8meg connection! Bloody Bulldog!

Is there any way of improving it?!

either post the word in its full form and allow the censor to do its job or don't swear at all

How far are you from the exchange? Have you tried hosting the game yourself and had any problems then? What's your upload?

NO, I've just tried joining quick play player and ranked games. I got fed up ith it for tonight and the missus has put a film on so I'll try again tomorrow. Should hosting improve lag then?

Well the thing is you could be just connecting to poor latency games, so a 10000mb connection might lag if the host has a very low upload - if they're not receiving your data fast enough it's going to struggle to keep you in the game.

I would try hosting a smallish room (although CoD2 is only 8 player iirc so that should be fine) and see what your ping is then. If it's still bad with only a few other people in then it may indicate it's your connection. (Going from personal experience, rather than complete knowledge of bandwidth management).

Also run the Xbox Live diagnostic and check that you have an "Open" NAT setting (not moderate or closed) as that can cause problems.

If you host the game you'll get zero lag (cos you're hosting it ): if your up is rubbish everyone else's pings will go through the roof, mind, and they'll curse your name and leave the game.

Have you not tested your bb connection with one of the myriad speed tests out there? As Matt suggests, I doubt very much it's your dl speed that's causing you grief, but your ul. If you've got no ul bandwidth, there's not much you can do but moan at Bulldog or change ISP.

make sure your pc(s) aren't using it either! so no p2p/voip/etc etc.
