View Full Version : John Carpenters Vampires 2 disc?
********* seem to have a 2 disc JCV on their site.
Anyone have any more information on this?
I've found the original one disc cheap, so is this one so much more worth getting?
Cheers y'all.
Dan.
I didn't know a 2 disc version was available, is it a new *Ultimate* Edition maybe?
It's most likely the Columbia twin-pack of "Vampires" and "Mary Shelley's Frankenstein" which is widely available elsewhere. If Columbia were re-doing "Vampires" it would be a Superbit title (so only 1 disc!) - it's Universal who do the "Ultimate Edition" range.
Isn't it a R2 DTS version?

Its a French 2 disk version with a DTS soundtrack, dont know any more details though.
is the film anygood btw? it's el cheapo at the mo in all the sales! (the regular dvd version)
I'm a bit wary of Carpenter's 90s output!
so any opinions?
and would DTS be worth the purcahse? (ie the 2 disc french disc)

i wouldn't really recommend the movie. it's a dissapointment. not as much action as it bills, and of what there is, it's not exactly done very well either.

It's well up to Carpenter's recent low standards.
It starts well and then goes down hill faster than Bernard Manning on a moped.
I beleive Carpenter got too close to the truth after making 'They Live' and has been replaced by some talentless dopelganger!
I believe it's the standard extras from the UK disc. Only worth getting if you're mad about DTS.
PS It's cheaper from Amazon.fr
the first 20 mins are pretty decent but then it goes down hill faster than u can say "this film is ****". i would like to also congratulate the fat baldwin brother on giving possibly one of the worst peformances in a john carpenter film.
well thats what i think anyway!!
Complete pants of a film.

I used to really not like this film, until I decided to give it another go last year. Now I can't believe I didn't like it!
Good action, witty script (most of James Woods' lines were improv.) and cool score by John Carpenter with Booker T and the MGs .
Plus Sheryl Lee's naked ass!

IMO Vampires fits in very well with Carpenter's output of the last decade and a half. I think you know what I mean:)

Rewatched this on film4 the other day and I found it to be very watchable. Not anywhere near one of his classics but I love how Carpenter shoots a frame and can make a scene look epic. I think he laso has a gift for creating interesting background and minor characters.
Really wish he would give directing another go but break it down to a typical Carpenter seige thriller.
I have this French R2 dvd. The DTS is OK I guess but havnt listened to it in a while, the transfer though is not as good as the standard UK release. The extras are the same as the UK but also a documentary in French apart from when JC speaks. The doc is basically a run down of all his films up to Village Of The Damned I think...and there are no FRench subs for the narration.

Saw this on Film4 as well. James Woods is almost always entertaining, and i liked the tongue-in-cheek tone of it, kind of along the lines of Dusk Till Dawn. Unofrtunately (and i've only ever seen the film on Cable) the cinematography looked like television, and 'the Baldwin brother' phoned in his performance.
Good potential, mostly dreck.
Vampires is a decent film. Not one of his greatest but better than Ghosts of Mars which was a sad film for Carpenter to end on (looks as if thats his last movie anyway).
Dunno what the problem is, its a very enjoyable vampire movie. Ive seen a lot worse.

takes the annoying tactic of Mission impossible the movie of starting off as a story about a team then killing the surplus members off to concentrate on the new reduced membership storyline
