It's been listed on the DVD Net (R4) set for some months as due for release in May 2002. The current disc isn't that bad, and would have been even better with an anamorphic print.

No specs are listed anywhere far as I can see for now. Guess an anamorphic print is one thing MGM will add, and maybe a commentary from some of the surviving actors, e.g. Richard Attenborough, James Garner, etc.

I wonder if the "true story of the great escape" will be the 1 hour documentary they had on TV the other day...

Isn't that already on the current disc? I didn't watch the ITV documentary the other day so couldn't compare the two.

Nice to see MGM are putting a bit of extra effort into this new edition. :D

It looks like MGM have been working really hard to get all those classics from their catalogue out as decent dvds this year, or rather, last year now.... and it looks like they'll have plenty more for us this year too! :)

I'd love to hear the commentary track from the Criterion laserdisc, which features John Sturges, Elmer Bernstein, & stuntman Bud Ekins.

It's a pity that Criterion won't licence it :(
