You may remember I'm new to this, 350d twin lens kit only - haven't spent out any more yet. No filters, fancy glass, tripods etc. Any thoughts or advice based on these?

Looks as though you've soon mastered DSLR All look good to me

the 'lost anchor' one, if you had taken it a bit 'lower' then i think it may look slightly better.

ie just crouched a bit, still have the boat in mind, but just witha lower perspective

as people have said, it takes more than a camera to take a good picture, and seems you may have the ;eye' ;)

thanks folks, I must admit these are a few of those that I feel are "better than the rest". I've taken hundreds of very mediocre shots that, if I'm honest, I could probably have done just as well with my ixus700.

What's your average "hit rate" of really good shots against the normal/crap ones?

HJH - I see what you mean about alternative angles, will think a bit more. Especially where time isn't of the essence.

Look fine to me as a beginner or otherwise. The anchor one shows that your thinking about the whole image foreground and background so well done.
