I'm getting a new laptop and thought I should really put an effort into organising my pics.
What (if any) software do people use? Picasa and ACDSee are both names I've heard. I know Picasa is free so it's a bonus but wondered whether it's the best.
I have been using Adobe Photoshop Elements since version 3, and love the organiser that it uses. Trouble is, i'm stuck with it, as I use the tagging system for my images, and i'm pretty sure you can't import that data into other software packages.
I see a new version (http://www.adobe.com/products/photoshopelwin/) is due out soon too
"new -> folder" works for me!

File folder structure here too ...
I use ACDSEE as a viewer - I've been using it for years so know it backwards and I think it rocks! I don't use it to organise though...
Another vote for Picasa. Coz it's free, it's certainly worth trying in any case.
Just downloaded Picasa, cool little program and works really well!
though it does lack the kind of advanced tweaks that most of the users on this forum use... curves etc (or from what i can tell so far)...

Adobe lightroom is downloadable in beta form at the moment - http://labs.adobe.com/technologies/lightroom
Start with Picasa as it's free. I only use it for organising rather than editing, but it does have some good basic feature for that too. 2.5beta is out, and i've been using it for a few weeks, some nice new features.

ACDSee is good but seems to be getting more bloated with every release. Version 9 is out soon and is apparently much faster.
Elements 5.0 looks as good as ever. Has curves as well now.
