Hi

I need to choose between the above two.

I will not be buying the speakers as part of the package. Instead, I intend to couple them with my B&W DM601s2 speakers.

Can anyone recommend the better machine from experience. Am tempted by the Yamaha as it is only £170 and the Denon is £250

Is the Denon worth the extra £80?

Thanks in advance!

If you are planning on connecting Sky Plus to your amp using an optical cable, so that you can listen to movies in DD5.1, be aware that there are a lot of Denon amps out there that can't decode Sky's 5.1 output correctly. Even though they can decode a DD5.1 signal from any DVD player quite happily. The problem is with Sky, and was caused by an upgrade to the Sky boxes last year, but Sky don't want to admit that there is a fault, never mind doing anything to correct it.

Hi Broadz

No, would not be doing this myself. I just want a straight up top quality CD and DAB machine that I can couple with the FAB b&W's

what about the Onkyo as well? similar spec and has a dock option for an Ipod just like the Denon.

The Onkyo looks good, I am not bothered about an Ipod (but you are quite right, I might be one day). I have now ordered the Yamaha = I do love th fact that it has proper speaker banana plug/binding posts as oppose to the spring action posts of the others!

Received the Yamaha and coupled with my B&W's - I can honestly say it is WONDERFUL!

Got it at Richer Sounds on a price beat at £158 delivered!

superfi had it that price until recently.

don't think the yamaha has mp3 capability or the ipod options of either this or the denon.

very uninterested in both Mp3 and ipod stuff, so this is perfect for me.

I really wanted a good quality cd player to play bought cds on and a great dab tuner. The yamaha ticks all my boxes and has great speaker binding posts.

Highly recommended quality item.

whats a price beat... price match...?

did you have to compare against another local shop or what.

They beat the next best price by £10 - they matched against an online retailer.

Very good on Richer Sounds part!

I chose the Yamaha for all the same reasons as Corrado.

Great machine at a good price and I too bought mine from Richer Sounds with a price match of £164 in April.

Binding posts were one of the big plus points for me.
