Where is the best place to put them, considering the couch is against the rear wall?? (I currently have them behind the couch - a bit muffled!!)

I would say on the corners of the wall (either on shelves or brackets), facing inwards towards the couch.

I wouldn't agree. Placing any speakers in corners can cause sound problems. I'd recommend visiting Dolby's website and checkout their recommendations for speaker placement (http://www.dolby.com/ht/Guide.HomeTheater.0110.html#chapter3)

True (probably less so for rears though) but some of us just don't have the room to put speakers any place else.

If you place them next to the couch angled in, just make sure you fiddle with the levels as otherwsie they are just too loud with respect to the fronts - I have the same problem.

Having gained 6.1 over Xmas (thanks Santa) I now have another rear to place!! (currently hanging on the wall above the couch).
