ok, i put my entire music collection on my iPod and i've been listening to some classics that i've totally forgotten about, including some amazing tracks that barely got a sniff of any chart action...so - what are your favourite pop songs that most people will probably never have heard of...?
I'll kick off with:
silversun "i'll see you around"
kenickie "in your car"
world of twist "the storm"
in fact, if someone can come up with a better, more polished and complete pop song than the silversun one i'll be surprised...
The only songs I can come up with to counter the Silversun songs are songs off Silversun's superior first album.
Also, Silversun sound a bit like Cheap Trick, so you might like "Surrender" or "I Want You To Want Me".

And Dream Police.
And Next postion please...
Bran Van 3000 were a one hit wonder with drinking in L.A. but the first single off of thier 2nd album Astounded was a Curtis Myfield sampling lost pop gem.
More recently 'Young folks' by Peter,Bjorn and John should have been the feel good hit of the summer.

The whole of that album - Discosis - is superb. The very definition of an unknown gem

Trembling blue stars are pretty poppy and i'm not sure why they aren't more popular.
Pond however are not pop but everytime I hear them I can't figure out why they weren't huge. They were on Sub Pop records the same time as Nirvana ands Mudhoney bit no one seems to have heard of them.

Funny, I saw the thread title and instantly thought - "I'll see you around" by Silver Sun - I think it is a genius pop song and can never understand why it wasn't a massive hit. Also Lava from their first album, great song.
Others I would include are:
Ruth - Waiting for This (this is the guy who went on to have a hit as Aqualung - as Ruth he was produced by Langer and Winstanley and this song is just brilliant, it has an amazing guitar piece and is just a beautiful little pop song)
Teenage Fanclub - Sparky's Dream (went through a spell with compilations of putting this back to back with the Silver Sun song - really though could list Starsign as well, that too is an amazing pop song).
Quickspace - Happy Song Number 2 (just pure joy from start to finish!)

Any Shins song.
Siobhan Donaghy - Overrated
Way too underrated if you ask me. Her one and only album was a pretty decent stab at a mature solo record after she left the Sugababes.
Annie - Heartbeat
pop perfection
Annie's album is a fantastic pop record for sure, Heartbeat has an excellent video too.
NU's album 'alphabravoshockpopdisco' has quite a few good pop ditties on it.

Bobby Conn - Never Get Ahead.
(Possibly the best video too http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rm9dzLxLvxc).
Annie is indeed superb. And I saw Pond support the Muses years ago and I agree with you Nathan-Wind - maybe just wasn't their 'turn'.
I would add :
Kylie's 'Light Years' album (not really unheard of but not the sales monster that 'Fever' was)
Madasun - 'Don't You Worry'
The Autumns - Apple
Actually the whole album is full of relatively unknown pop gems. Its the kinda band i wish became coldplay big just so everyone could realise what they're missing out on.

Any Shins song.
I'd 2nd that but to narrow it down to one song - New Slang.

nice to know i'm not the only one...
anyway, looks like i'll have to get the annie album as well since it seems like i'm the only one without it..and after a think, i think i'll add "13th disciple" by five thirty and "i've had it with blondes" by cud...
Going back a bit but it's such a fantastic song -
Cathouse - Danielle Dax
