Can anyone offer opinions on the best gamecube games on the market. I like platform, first person shooters and addictive puzzlers (but play most games). would really aprreciate any opinions. Cheers.

Eternal Darkess is a great spooky action adventure game.

RE4 is by far the best console game I've ever played.

Another vote for Resident Evil 4.

For platform games surely it's all about the Mario Sunshine. I love them also, but they're a dying breed these days (if there are any other good GC platformers let me know!)

I'm not massively into FPS but I have Timesplitters 2 which is ok, and XIII which I really like but everyone else seems to hate. Outside of that Mario Kart is a solid choice, and of course you have to play Zelda: The Wind Waker which is simply fantastic.

*Another* Resident Evil 4 vote, and almost as good, and possibly my favourite Gamecube exclusive - Eternal Darkness.

The instant answer being, predictably 'Resident Evil 4', an essential purchase

It would be a crime not to, it's a Gamecube essential in my opinion.

Another Vote for the Resident Evil games.

I think Zelda WW was the first Zelda game to dissapoint. You spend hours in your boat trying not to fall asleep while you travel the ocean, and it's not always clear what you have to do next.

Resi 4 & 1 [the remake]

Seriously? From what I've played of WW so far it's one of the more linear Zelda games I've seen. Way more linear than Ocarina of Time was for sure. And although the sailing thing is annoying, you can move to places quicker later on in the game - it's only like the horse-riding across Hyrule field was in OoT.

Windwaker is superb, as is:

Resident Evil 4
Pikmin 1 and 2
Eternal Darkness
Metroid Prime
Super Monkey Ball 1 and 2
Mario Sunshine (well the the half that's possible for mortal man)
Mario Kart

Skies of Arcadia: Legends. Started playing this about a week ago and it's absolutely brilliant.
Can't believe no-one's mentioned Animal Crossing.

I haven't played the PlayStation version but I've had this for both the Xbox and the GC and I don't remember any major differences. If I recall correctly the IGN head-to-head article at the time said there wasn't much between the three versions.

I'd try and get TimeSplitters: Future Perfect instead though if possible as this has a far, far better single player mode. The disjointed solo campaign was the biggest critism of TS2.

Pacman Vs is a great laugh, if you have a GBA and link cable.

I've found it hard to get everyone involved, but when you are Mario Party 5 is absolutely ace. Even the ice-hockey + volleyball are good for passing a quick 30 minutes.

Monkey Ball 2 isn't that bad either.

I've always wanted to play Four Swords with 4 people but have never had the means - I can't imagine many people did! Glad it only cost me a tenner.

I mentioned Pacman Vs above, and here are some more multi-player essentials:

* Bomberman Generation
* Donkey Konga
* Ribbit King
* Mario Kart: Double Dash!!
* Super Monkey Ball
* Super Monkey Ball 2.
* TimeSplitters: Future Perfect
* WarioWare Inc.: Mega Party Game$

It wasn't helped by the DS being incompatible with the link cable. The couple of times I did manage to play it with a few people it was fun. I'd love to see it ported to the Wii and DS.

I've been meaning to get Four Swords for ages. Is there a link cable for the Micro? If so, then I already have an original GBA, and a GBA SP, so would only need one more GBA and cable which should be cheap at somewhere like Gamestation (http://www.thedvdforums.com/affiliatelink.php?localaffiliateid=52).

I'd love to see it ported to the Wii and DS.
I can't believe that apart from DS demo downloads via the Nintendo channel and Pokemon Battle Revolution, that Nintendo haven't made use of Wii / DS link-up capabilities yet.

I have been butin up super cheap games second habd for our two game cubes in anticipation of the kids getting into them.

For me though the biggest disappoinment GC wise was the lack of kit to plug into all those lovely ports on the bottom. :cuckoo:

Can the Wii/DS connect directly to each other or do they need to pass-through a wireless rounter?

Where is Eternal Darkness cheap? It's well worth getting.

Ikaruga is great! I have it on the Dreamcast but I love the way the GC controller feels so I tend to play it on that.

I quite like Billy Hatcher too.
