View Full Version : Scotland vs Faroe Islands & Lithuania vs Scotland
Well, Scotland's Euro 2008 qualifying campaign kicks off on Saturday against the Faroe Islands. I've got my ticket and looking forward to it - simply must get the win and should be looking for six points from the first two matches.
Bit worried about the line-up Walter Smith will choose. Yes, I know Kenny Miller has put in a decent shift for Scotland in recent matches but he can't hit a barn door at the moment and I do believe players should be picked on the basis of current form. Garry O'Connor scored in his most recent outing for Lokomotiv so I would go with him and Kris Boyd upfront. I expect Miller to play though and hopefully he can get a goal or two for Scotland and continue to shoot blanks for his club side. :D
Looking at the players in the squad (and there's one or two missing I would have included - Steven Smith for example) I would pick the following:
Gordon
Neilson, Pressley, McManus, Naysmith
Fletcher, Hartley, Quashie, McCulloch
O'Connor, Boyd
39,000 tickets sold for the Faroe Islands game so far. Still available if you want to go.
If not, then both the Faroe Islands and Lithuania games are live on Sky Sports:
Scotland vs Faroe Islands - Sky Sports 2, Saturday at 2.30pm
Lithuania vs Scotland - Sky Sports 1, Wednesday at 5pm
Word is we're going with a 4-3-3 with McFadden, Miller and Boyd upfront.
Upwards of 42,000 tickets sold. Still available if you want to go.
Looking forward to it! Come on Scotland!
Going to have to listen to it on the radio as I'm having to work but I expect a comfortable win for Scotland. 4-0
Yeah we should looking to thump this team, Georgia beat them 6-0 I'm sure we can manage that with Boyd, Miller and McFadden

5-0 now!
Why is Ally McCoist on the bench, is he part of the management now?
Thought he'd been coaching since Walter Smith took over?
5-0 at half time
Good stuff so far, although there are some worrying things such as Craig Gordon leaping like a retarded moose, stupid yellow cards and talk of Neil McCann. Hopefully we can get some more penalty kick practice in the second half; I doub't Buffon would've let either of those in :suspect:
Bring on France, Italy and Ukraine!
Good performance - well pleased with the six goals and nice that all the strikers scored today. Some really nice football first half - faded in the second half but always seems to be the way when leading by such a margin at the halfway point.
Good crowd today as well which was great to see.
Look forward now to Lithuania on Wednesday.
EDIT - Forgot to ask - who did the Sky Sports commentary for the Scotland game now that Ian Crocker is with Setanta Sports?
FT Italy 1 - 1 Lithuania
Awesome stuff  We've been completely shafted with the group (both the world cup finalists? balls to that) but I'm starting to feel a bit better about it now. Should be easy from now on in.

Nice one, that's a bit of a boost already as you would have fancied Italy to sail through that one. Let's hope it not a sign of what's ahead in midweek though. Hopefully France, Ukraine and Italy will all take points of each other and any other help appreciated.
Can't believe 50k turned up today against the Faroes, show's the new found optimism we have under Walter.
Any takers that Kris Boyd will eventually become the highest ever Scotland International player. Only another 27 to go.

If Boyd can keep free from injury there's no reason why not.
He's a natural goalscorer and I'm glad he's playing for Rangers and Scotland.
Italy result was certainly a bonus. Lets hope we can capitalise on Wednesday night - certainly won't be easy.
Good performance and good result, but even a half decent goalie would have stopped both penalties and at least 1 of the goals. Not complaining though, just hoping that people don't expect us to go over to Lithuania and giving them a doing. As shown by their result against Italy, it's going to be a hard game.

I'm sure everyone would take a last minute own goal off a defenders bum against Lithuania, as long as Scotland get the three points.

Wonder how much of the Lithuania score is down to the Italians season not yet being started and them being very rusty.

Grudge match of the decade on Wednesday - France v Italy.
Hopefully it will be a draw with a few sending's off - especially some Frnch ones as we play them in October.
Grudge match of the decade on Wednesday - France v Italy.
It is being shown on Sky Sports 3.
Good nights viewing on Sky Sports then as the Scotland game is on at 5.30pm.
Know I asked above but just in case anyone can answer who was doing the Sky Sports commentary on our game yesterday?
EDIT - Cheers for the answer Boozyuzi.

Bill Leslie.
Rumoured team for tomorrow night sees Kris Boyd drop out and Gary Caldwell come in.
Can understand Boyd as Miller has done well in that lone role before but Caldwell getting in ahead of Russell Anderson really surprises. Maybe the Scotland supporting Celtic fans among us can shed some light on this but I've never been that impressed by Caldwell whilst Anderson has been really consistent for Aberdeen in the last year (possibly longer) and did well in the Kirin Cup.

So basicallly Caldwell or Dailly for a holding midfield position and the other at right back.
JCL, I think the reason for Caldwells inclusion is the fact that he'll play 1 of the positions The Cleaner mentioned whereas Anderson can only play CB.
I think the team could do with Anderson's pace at the back. He hasn't put a foot wrong for Aberdeen for years, I really don't know what he has to do to get a game for Scotland.

Well due to McFaddens injury he's on now.
Edit: sorry it's Graham Alexander. I really hope we're not going to be too defense minded.

Boyd should have killed the game there. I guess he's not very good with his head!
Lithuania pull one back - 2-1 Scotland now. Come on Scotland - hang on for what would be a terrific result!

Special kind of goal there from Lithuania!!
Do we need spoiler tags?? Absolutely tremendous result in Kaunas - six points out of six. Fantastic - well done to Walter Smith and all the boys. Bring on France! :D

I'm just gald we got rid of Bertie when we did - if he'd still been boss, we'd probably have drawn against the faroes and humped tonight.

Well that last five minutes was pretty scary, but the second half performance was very pleasing. Nice goal from Kenny Miller, he took it very well. If he keeps playing like that for Scotland then I really couldn't give a HOOT about his club form.
Not sure what to hope for in the France Italy game  bookings and injuries I guess :)
France 1-0 up on italy in 2nd minute of game!
Govou.
Great result for Scotland
Great result again for Scotland. What price now for us winning the group ;) Still not usre what result I want for the France game?
