Hi all,
Anyone had the following problem ....
Sky+ box is definitely on as you can hear it and feel it. But there are no lights on on the front of the box and turning it on/off via either remote or manually on the box has no effect ??
Anyone any ideas what the problem is ?

Have you tried the usual...switch off at the mains trick ...? leave it for 5 mins then try again ...

Haven't tried that yet.
Came back from a couple of days away (it was all fine when I left) to fnd no lights on the front of the box. All I have done so far is try switching it off at the mains and then immediately back on.
As platty has already said; turn off at the mains, leave for a few minutes then turn back on the mains but don't power on until a further couple of minutes.
This worked on mine for a different problem but I've never come across a box with no lights at all

Left it off at the mains all night.
Turned it back on at the mains - red light came on, went off, back on again (but seemed 'fainter') then all the lights flashed on across the front. All the lights then went off but still nothing.
Ahh, that sounds like what happened with my parents. I'm guessing a dead hard drive, which is pretty easy to replace.
Do a search of this forum for instructions

That could be what it is ... a couple of weeks ago we came back home to find the machine had lost all of it's planner information - a sure indication, apparently, that the drive was on it's way out.
How much are replacement drives ?? And, given the current box is a refurbished Pace v1, do I not run the risk of getting the "17min bug" ??
Mind you - we already have a new Pace PVR3 on order from SimplyDigital - so I am just trying to work out if it is worth cancelling the order ?
How much are you paying for the new V3 box?

You don't want to know ;)
Oh yes you do ... £139 (inc vat) from here (http://www.simplydigital.co.uk/).
They can deliver it tomorrow (assuming it's in stock and I've had no contact saying it isn't), it is guaranteed to be a Pace (best of the 3) box - which Sky can't do, and if I had gone down the new HDD route .. in order to get it the box back up and running (including my time and effort) it would have meant going to PC World for the drive so probably not that much of a saving.
Probably worth it to replace the V1 box - if it had been a V2, I'd have recommended a HD upgrade instead

True ... but you've got me worried now as to what the 2 means on the SimplyDigital description ??
Are these (http://www.simplydigital.co.uk/acatalog/Sky_Plus_Receivers.html) the latest non-HDD Sky+ boxes ??

Unless it has been fixed recently it is no longer possible to put upgraded HDs in V1 boxes after the recent update.
Large thread on digital spy about this.

Well - the brand spanking new Pace PVR3 box was delivered day.
After a very long phone call to Sky [ mainly because I had the viewing card in the Interactive slot and not the one hidden behind the panel  ] everything is back up and running.
Had to a forced software download to the latest version. The PVR3 has a very handy "updating firmware ... this may take 10 minutes" screen which is a lot more useful than the v1's blank screen !!!
And with double the HDD size of the v1 (which we didn't fill) I don't think I'll be bothering to upgrade the HDD anytime soon.
