View Full Version : Anyone have this TV: Toshiba 43 VJ13P, thoughts, experiences please.
I have seen this TV for £1,195 inc VAT and delivery from Robertsons Online, but it doesnt include a stand although I have emailed them asking if they would include one or do a deal. Anyone have any pics or thoughts and experiences of this tv. Is it also true you get just as big a wideescreen picture on a 4.3 as you would on an actual widescreen toshiba (give or take an inch)
If this is the case i presume its more practical to have a 4.3 so tv etc is bigger too.

This <a href="http://thedvdforums.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=43728">thread</a> has some usefull info regarding RPTVs
Just edited my 1st post. I could afford that tv if I put down a large deposit which I could once Ive sold my 32 inch Phillips and Toshiba DVD player. Anyone got this TV, its the TOSHIBA 50WHKIT110 *DOLBY DIG*SILVER. anyone on here got one of these.
:)
$0.02 from my side of the fence.
Skip the DD and buy an Amp. It'll sound a lot better.
Skip the extra 7 inches and save £800 (or spank it on the aforementioned amp).
Skip the 100Hz. 50Hz of RPTV is *very* stable, and I'm yet to see 100Hz done right.
All IMHO, of course...
Nobody have this TV then.

I personally would avoid that company.
My mate is still waiting for his speaker returning that they have had since November.
Anybody else used QED and had problems. Where else is there rear projector TV,s bigger then 40 inch for a cheaper price then. 46 inch would be a good size. Is it best to get a 4.3 TV or a widescreen TV.
What about this one TOSHIBA 40PW13KIT631+V631 VCR SILVER any good. Theres so many rear projectors about.:(

$64,000 question! I, along with many others round these parts, own the Toshiba 43" 4:3 model. It is quite superb and although is all very 'trendy' to have W/S, I simply considered a 4:3 to be the best of both worlds - offering a large screen size on 4:3 material (try watching The Simpsons on my telly!), but still offering a decent size screen for W/S DVD's or digital TV broadcasting. It has a 16:9 mode for taking advantage of anamorphic movies.
As you may know, there's an enormous thread on this model on this forum - check it out!
It's actually funny how quickly you get used to the size - it only took a couple of weeks and I wished I had a bigger telly! Having said that, it was £1150 (inc. stand) - BARGAIN!
Where from for this price, any pictures friend. Thanks
limited help here I'm afraid. I've had my telly since June and I'm not sure whether that price would still be valid. I got it from a place up in Bolton - no website, just a phone number (which I can't remember). It's mentioned in that large thread which I see you've read - have a look there. In terms of the service, I was impressed. As I say, it was a while back now, so I'm not sure where you can try now.
Shame. thanks anyway. Im after somewhere that does interest free . Im still not sure about 4.3 or widescreen. Do these tosh tv's all have an optin of switching between 50hz and 100hz.
Was put off RPTV due to needing to be at exactly the right viewing position to get the best out of the TV, though I am sure others will come to RPTV's support on this.
FYI Tescos electrical have a 40PW03 for 1100 (old model of PW13, I think).

Hey Brad
I bought a 43VJ13P from Sound & Vision in November and love it to bits! The picture does look a bit dark when I stand up but I really prefer watching from the sofa anyway ;) Viewing from a variety of horozontal angles is no problem though. Can't imagine going back to a CRT.
And what about watching widescreen dvd films. is there only 1 widescreen mode on this set. Unlike my 32 inch phillips which has a few different widescreen formats, or isnt it a problkem. I ask cos dvd films come in a few different forms of widescreen dont they.
Yup. Only one w/s mode that I know of: Anamorphic.
Chances are, every other mode is for a 16:9 television to better handle a 4:3 image, not the other way round.
Personally, I find the best thing to do with a 4:3 image is blow it up to 43 inches across, sit back, and giggle. :)
So im not going to lose out on widescreen formats if I buy a 4.3 43 inch rear projector, im thinking of purchasing the tosh 43VJ13P.
nope - you've got no worries. The one WS mode is all you need really. Things are either in 4:3 or at some sort of WS aspect ratio. I've watched a vareity of AR's on my 43 incher and they all look great - 1.85:1, 2.35:1, etc..... obviously, you get a little extra black-barring on the narrower AR's, but you will be watching them 'properly'.
So will it be a big enough leap from a 32 inch widescreen to amaze me then.
well, tbh, I don't know. I went up from a 25" 4:3 so it was obviously a big leap for me. I was considering a 32" until I read the big thread on the 43"!!
Bear in mind that the WS image you see when watching a 1.85:1 movie is about 37" and about 35" for a 2.35:1 so I'm not sure that it'll be all that big a difference......
I went from a sony 14" trinitron.
Hmmm.. Did it make a difference.... I think,, yes.
The best/worst of it (as wide can doubtless confirm) is that when watching 4:3, for example Eyes Wide Shut, the screen is so damn large that it becomes apparent to all and spouselett exactly where you are looking. :)

I agree with the 4:3 being the best of both worlds.
we are watching the x-files series 3 at the moment and its top fun. Dreamcast is also v.cool
My girlfriend is addicted to Day of the Dead 2 on the dreamcast, its just so funny to watch. She gets sore fingers and everything.
Widescreen is more that acceptable.

I have been looking at getting a new TV and I looked at the Sony and Toshiba RPTV's. I thought the picture quality was terrible. I much prefer the 100Hz 32" WS picture quality. I am aware that RPTV's and Plasmas require a dimly lit room, but the pic still didn't cut it for me. I was looking at a LOEWE Aconda TV today in my local Hi-fi shop and the quality of the picture was very close to HD. (Okay it was connected to the top of the range ARCAM DVD player)Anyone got any thoughts on the above as I would really like to hear from owners of the above TV and an RPTV.
Its all subjective I guess... But my humble opinion states I ain't never seen it look so good as it does on my 43Vj

Brad, just get this tv as soon as you can ;)
Marvellous picture, doesn't do 100hz and doesn't need too.
Games consoles are stonking on them. House of the Dead 2 with the lightgun is a great laugh and F355 looks better than the arcade. Can't wait to get Dead Or Alive 3 on the X-Box running on it.
Shows a 16:9 image the same as a 39.5" widescreen but shows a 4:3 image 70% larger than a 40" widescreen. These really are the best of all worlds and are an absolute steal at the price. DVD's like the Matrix lobby scene and SWep1 podrace scene look phenomenal.
Unless you have a big room though, don't pay the extra for the 50". It's tempting to get as big as you can afford, but you CAN sit too close to these to really enjoy them.
Its a lovely looking set as well and under 18" deep.
Very, very nice. Just don't be a prat and buy from Currys like I did
Thanks for the tips folks, everything seems great with this TV its just I dont wanna be disapointed with the size of the widescreen picture. I watched Mummy Returns last night on my 32 inch and realised its not that big a widescreen picture on it. I sit about 6 feet away from the TV also. Another thing is my room is quite bright as its painted in pur white with white blinds and no curtains, will this affect the quality of the picture and viewing angle is this a problem for people not sitting directly in front of the TV.
Anyone any pics of tis TV in their living room.
Does anyone have the number for John Lewis please, Ive heard they will price match and maybe throw in a 5 year warranty.
Bloody eck Brad, do you want us to wipe your nose for you as well?
Get a phone book, go to BT enquiries, or whatever.
I understood that JL no longer match internet prices. Worth a try though.
