I have looked everywhere for the cfg file to edit the res but it simply is not there. No matter where I look, no mattter how many forums I read, the file just is not on my machine.
Please help
More annoyingly, I had no problem with my previous install. This is a different retail copy bought in the last few days.

Of any use?

Cheers but the file is not there, nor anywhere on my PC.
To make matters worse, I chose to auto update the game when it asked me, but it wasd ownloading at 10K/s so I cancelled. Now the game wont recognise the DVD, even after a reinstall of the game :suspect:
I guess I'll have to dive into the registry ~sigh~

It's easier to download the full patch and apply that rather than using the auto update facility (which is rubbish).
In recent weeks, I've had some bizarre issues with F.E.A.R. and Prey (which I ended up selling), both of which occured not long after I installed the latest nVidia WHQL drivers (91.31), which were so awful rolled back to the previous ones. I'm convinced these have caused problems under the hood and that in the long run it is probably simpler for me to reinstall Windows rather than messing around trying to fix the problem on my own.

Yeah cheers mate. I'm downloading the global 1.0-1.07 patch now. The autoupdate thing is a farce. I've been reading up all about it and lot's of players have the same problems. Autoupdate takes HOURS over Sierras' FTP, and it doesnt even download the correct file. It actually broke my install, and downloading other incremental updates manually, it quickly became obvious that they are regional. Trying to find all the English GB updates proved a nightmare, especially using Sierras dialup! Eventually I found the full global update which still took HOURS to download.
I now have the supposed proper patch, so later on I wil reinstall the game and start again. Bizzarely, I found the settings.cfg file, but only after running the game. Could it be that the file isnt created until the game is played? f so, serves me right for going straight in and trying to switch to 1680x1050 without even playing a few rames first
Cheers for the help though, I'll keep this updated in the ineterests of completion for people doing searches.
RE: 91.31 - I've had no issues using this driver with Prey, nor any other game, touch wood. Using a 7950GX2.
EDIT: Have you tried Driver Cleaner? That will remove all traces of your Nvidia drivers.

Should be in: C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Shared Documents\Monolith Productions\FEAR
At least that's where mine is (and has been edited so I can play at 1280 * 1024).
*edit* Of course that's what the link above says as well, so just ignore me.

Yeah, cheers dude but I knew that already :)
The problem was that it was not there, nor anywhere on my machine on any drive or partition. After managing to get the game to actually load up, the file appeared. Bizzare but true :)

Okay so you spend hours upon hours downloading the full patch which is allegedly 'global' and then you run it and it's a regional patch for the US only. Are Sierra/Monolith seriously this retarded? Do they know that America is not the only country on this planet?
FFS sorry for the rant but this is getting seriously annoying now

There is a european patch now. I managed to get the US one to work by downloading the US language file for the game separately.

Yeah, I did wonder if that might be the case. Glad to know you've got it sorted.

Yes, I use it every time I install a new graphics driver. It made no difference in this case, and I suspect the reason is because there are all sorts of new bits and pieces that Driver Cleaner 1.5 may not know about (after all, it does feature an entirely new control panel). Add to that all the bugs - the SLi notification one being the most obvious - and you have a recipe for disaster (in fact, I ranted about it when they were first released: here (http://www.thedvdforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=432610&highlight=nvidia)).
I think the conflict is related to SecuROM and the drivers, given that both Prey and F.E.A.R. use it as their means of copy protection. I'm due a reformat anyway, and I'll finish off Prey on the Xbox 360.
Hope you get the other problems with F.E.A.R. sorted out.

Cheers mate but that's 106-107. No use of you're on 1.0. A guy on the Sierra forums has given me the UK updates from 1.0 to 1.05. using Google there is NOTHING available for UK 1.05 -1.06. It's shocking.
http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=fear_update_engb_105_106.exe&btnG=Google+Search (http://)
ftp://ftp.sierra.com/pub/sierra/fear/updates/fear_server_en_106.exe
ftp://ftp.sierra.com/pub/sierra/fear/updates/fear_update_engb_106_107.exe
The top one is Multi Language and apparently works perfect for the UK version

Cheers, I shall try that :)
It does not seem to be an 'engb' file though.

LOL they said the global 1.07 was global and it only works on US games. Forgive me if I dont trust them :)
Nothing to lose is there? :D

It's a beast :notworthy
Its current '06 score is 8276 and it runs every game at full everything @1680x1050 liquid smooth. So it's working out pretty good mate  The 7950GX2 is a monster single card solution. It doesnt matter what AA or AF you throw at it, it just seems to keep on motoring way into 60fps territory, even in F.E.A.R
Monitor is a Dell 20" 2007WFP.
EDIT: 8476 and rising
EDIT: 8681
