View Full Version : Please Help Me About Speakers!
I want to get either a subwoofer and two front speakers, or a 5.1 kit with all the speakers.
Can anyone tell me which would be a better option, and a cheap solution? Nothing crappy though.
I've got a 40" Toshiba with two rear speakers at the mo.
Thanks in advance.

Hello again!
This is not the right forum either. :( You need the DVD & Home Cinema Hardware Forum, which is where this is heading. :)

People might be able to help you more if you gave us some idea of a budget, & does the TV have DD5.1 decoding on board?
ooopps, some more info might help!!
The Tv does have 5.1 decoding, and i am lookig to spend about ?£150 max. Don't want to spend too much.
Can anyone help?
Unfortunately your budget doesn't allow for a dedicated AV amp, so you will have to use the TV's own inbuilt amplification,
this is going to restrict you, as the power output is very low & will not be able to drive the speakers that well, my suggestion is to check out Richer Sounds, & pick up a small pair of stereo speakers & a centre speaker such as the Kef Cresta 1 & Cresta Centre, or maybe something from the Mission range, keep your rear speakers from the TV for now, & when your budget allows upgrade to a AV amp & buy a pair of floor standing stereo speakers for front duty & move your existing front speakers to rear duties, a decent subwoofer is going to set you back a good £200, anything below that isn't worth bothering with.
Another option is, if you can stratch your budget to £280, Richer Sounds are doing the Gale Movie Star 5 speaker package for £120, the Kenwood KRFV5050 AV amp, & multi region Cyberhome ADL528 DVD player, check out Richer Sound's advert in What Hi-Fi's January edition for details.
