Reviews (http://www.rottentomatoes.com/movie-1111398/)

Was alittle worrid as scotts action scenes are not the greatest in the world bar Gladiator however, he seems to have done some good this time:)

cant wait to see this one.

i must be the only guy in the world that didn't reckon Gladiator was the greatest film/ridley scott film, ever!

Alien is his greatest as far as i'm concerned :)

course, not seen Black Hawk Down yet, but i doubt it'll beat Alien.
but of course they're different types of movies i know..

Gladiator is overrated.

I feel Mr Scott wanted to do a action film and this is try.

Hopefully good however, if it is all like the shoot out in Hannibal its going to be pants :(

Cheers

i cant wait to see it, although i think some of the helicopter shots from the trailer are taken straight out of 'apocalypse now'. the view from the chopper going through the smoke and it swirling out the back......looks good though ;)

I found it confusing and terribly dull, to be honest. Didn't much care for its politics, but in simple terms of action, it failed to excite me, didn't make much sense, didn't build to anything... yawn.

Spy Game danced on its silly face. Go Tony!

I'd love to know WHY they made a film of this. Americans get hopelessly lost in a war they know nothing about, get a helo shot down, spend hours thrashing about being shot at, finally get some of their guys out and go home tails between legs.

I mean, that doesn't scream 'Hollywood blockbuster' at me... or have they done a U-571/Pearl Harbour job on it, and made it all end up with the stars and stripes flying over every warlord's mud hut in the whole country?

Additional:

Blimey, CNN don't like it much:

For me, combat mistakes, blunders, cock-ups can make a very good film if done right, and not given the Hollywood cliches treatment.
Problem is there are way to many "spoilt" films.

Like I do with so many war/combat movies, I'll do with this!

Watch it, and then find out what really happened.

At least my history will be better, cos all I did in my history lessons at school was the bloody Tolpuddle Martyrs and the road systems. (Did we learn anything? Well we've got the M25!)

Now if anyone had the balls or backing to do a film on the My Lai massacre in 1969. That I would like to see!

Anyway, I guess my point is that it is good to show the negatives as well as the positives.:)

I have seen all but one of Ridley Scott's films and I have to say, that only 2 or maybe 3 are any good.

I haven't seen the Duellists (Harvey Keitel mincing about in period drama just doesnt seem right to me) but with the exception of Alien and Blade Runner (which are both superb) and maybe Thelma and Louise (fairly entertaining yet pap) all his other films are poor.

Legend was a mess, Someone to Watch Over Me and Black Rain are dated and unmemorable, 1492, White Squall and Gi Jane are bad, badder, and pathetic respectively, Hannibal was sickening drivel and Gladiator was almost an unwatchabley bad film due to the terrible direction of Scott (only its productions values and decent cast save it from Scott's schoolboy direction).

And from the looks of the trailer, Black Hawk down seems to suffer from Scott's newfound love of really badly blocked action scenes all shot with high-speed shutter (even though slo-mo is not used so whats the point?!) and containing excessive, pointless and gratuitous violence.

I have no idea what has caused this decline, can anybody shed any light on how a director goes from Blade Runner and Alien to G.I. Jane and Hannibal? (i feel some Rob Reiner and Francis Ford Coppola discussions coming on :) )

I can't stand Tom Sizemore's hair in the ad. He looks like he has had bowl cut, and don't get me started on Josh Harnet:rolleyes:

sweetmate - have to agree with you there. Blade Runner and Alien are great, but I can't help but wonder about Scott's other films. Gladiator is good entertainment, but I agree it could have been a lot better.
