Does anyone know where I can get a fairly long subwoofer cable (I'd guess 25-30ft) for my active Subwoofer (Sony Pascal) as I'd like to stick it out of the way near a sofa and power outlet? I've tried homebrew ones with various gauges of speakerwire with the RCA plugs soldered on but always get an almighty hum :(
As cheap or as flat as possible since it'll be trailing halfway around the room. ;)

I didn't think you needed particularly special cable for the sub as it's only carrying low frequency sound. However, you could check with BeyondHiFi as they had flat cable to run under carpets.
A few suggestions. First check out CPC (http://www.cpc.co.uk) .Next, I use Rockford Fosgate cables in the car which are 3m lengths,I'm almost certain they do a 5m as well. Finally why not use a line coupler to achieve your length?
heres how i did mine (tight) : 2 squid 3 metre stereo phono cable from maplins, and a male:male coupler...rip the cable in 1/2 and join with afforementioned coupler, et voila! a 6 metre £2.50 subwoofer cable :)
Try www.lektropacks.co.uk they do cables to what ever length you want.

or it could be running near a power cable, and be picking up 50hz hum. Try laying it via another route.

Cheers everyone for the suggestions and links to suppliers, looks like I'm picking up hum from the houses electrics along the wall I originally though of placing the subwoofer, still should be able to sort something out with a convoluted run of wire around the dog/sofa/wife...
:)
Thanks,

If I'm not mistaken, you should be using 50 Ohm coax and not speaker cable.
I could be completely wrong though, I don't own a sub yet.

You will do - don't try to run any kind of line level audio through unscreened cable or it will hum like a sack of bumble bees. If you fancy a spot of soldering, you can buy the bits from Maplin. 'Phonoflex' is a nice cable for long line-level runs and is very easy to solder to, but I'm not sure Maplin sell it. You could also have a browse of either Canford Audio (http://www.canford.co.uk/) or Videk (http://www.videk.co.uk/)'s online catalogs.

No, line level does not require 50 or 75 ohm cable.

I'll be after a 5m all-pins-wired SCART-SCART and a 5m digital phono-phono cable when my DVD player arrives. Unfortunately CPC's on-line catalog has been taken off line - does anyone have either CPC's price/stock code for these or can recommend another supplier?

Hey, that's pretty cheap for the SCART - what's the quality like? I'd expect to have to pay at least £25.

That's great, certainly worth a try for that sort of price, although wish their catalogue was up and running online.
Thanks,
