Will my Tosh work in australia? I believe they use a different sort of PAL to us, so am i gonna have to invest in a new telly? Or would i be able to get away with buying an australian video and driving everything through composites?

I'd be interested to know that too. I've bought myself a 32 inch Panny over here and I'm intending to take it to Australia with me when I go back home.

Saying that though, I bought my DVD player over here from Australia and it works fine through both composite and S-Video on the televisions in this country.

cheers,
Paul

apparently it's stuff with tuners that'll be buggered up, i've got every confidence that my DVD player'll work (and you've just confirmed that), but i'd be heartbroken if i had to change my telly for a 43" RP model :)

Just found this on GoMatilda (http://www.gomatilda.co.uk/personal_issues/television.cfm)

Televisions and video recorders made for the UK will not work in Australia, because the frequency of the sound signal differs between the two countries - you might be able to tune into a TV station and see a picture, but you won't be able to hear the sound. However, Australian videos will work on a UK player (but not once from the USA), and so it might be worthwhile taking the video and TV so the children can watch videos without interrupting you!

Why ship your TV halfway around the world (an expensive and time-consuming proposition) when a 32" Metz Atlantis with progressive scan can be yours for $A3300 (say 1200 quid) with a full warranty, Australian tuning and an excellent picture?

Visit www.campsiehifi.com.au to get an idea of TV prices etc.
