Robocop and Dirty Harry

Two rather nice looking box-sets and both pre-ordered by me at Play, but are they worth me bothering ?

I have the Criterion Robocop but as good as it is I miss the inclusion of a 5.1 soundtrack and also am I fan off the two sequals ( I love to like films which most people hate ) so I should be on safe ground here.

But Dirty Harry im non too sure about. I can remember parts of each film from being a kid ( Clint running from phone box to phone box, someone burried under a field and a man on the roof of a bus, are probably the main things ) but are the films as good as people make out ? Its under £40 at Play so is it worth a purchase ?

Dirty harry is the best out of all the harry films and i liked magnum force with david soul but i want to know if its worth getting this new dirty harry over the existing bare bones version that i have.Does anyone know if there are any improvemnts to picture quality etc.Might go for the boxset anyway as £39 seems pretty good for 5 discs.

I've bought the R1 box set and watched the lot over Christmas.

Dirty Harry is by far the best. Great story, great villain, classic dialogue.

Magnum Force is overlong but still a solid, well-written and well-directed thriller and arguably the definitive 1970s action movie.

The Enforcer has its moments and good chemistry between Clint and Tyne Daly but it's a very average, by the numbers sequel.

Sudden Impact starts out great but goes rapidly downhill, with a dull murder plot that seems better suited to Inspector Morse, a useless performance by Sondra Locke and a villain so over the top he's laughable.

The Dead Pool doesn't have a great plot but stands up better than I thought it would - there's a clever car chase and it's fun to see Jim Carrey miming to Guns'N'Roses while Liam Neeson looks on.

PS - Picture quality on R1 is a little scratchy in places on the original Dirty Harry but otherwise excellent. I was stunned by how good Magnum Force looked.
