They've done this every year for the older sports titles AFAIK.

The issue here is that these companies should, by all means run their own servers yeah, but there should also be the option of IP to IP play so we can have the choice of playing online after.

Konami take note as well. :|

Well if you know the guy you wanna play against, you can always use Hamachi, it basically runs your own personal LAN server for you.

Oh and they've also announced that they're making System Shock 3 brought to you by the team behind that modern classic The Godfather: The Videogame. :gag:

Why is it that EA get a great franchise like system shock and put the worst dev team on it I wish they would just stop screwing up videogames before it is too late for everyone.

well Godfather got decent reviews and probably sold a load, personally I thought it was crap but I was probably in the minority.

I guess this is the reason EA wanted to use their own servers for xbox games instead of the standard MS ones. :oh-hum:

So if you want to play eg Battlefield, you have have the latest one or you can't play it at one point

EA......sucks.

well.. the ocmpany have some dodgy ethics and horrid ways of working but they do publish and make some fab games. Fight Night 3 is cool and just look at that Crytek game thing - its bloody incredible looking.

compaired to the film it was crap, however it werent too bad as a game in its own right.

ea are closing their servers to save money imo, as it must cost a fortune to keep servers open that people barely go on.

Nothing to stop them allowing peer to peer play via the standard Xbox Live servers as per every other Live game. Oh wait they made a big fuss about opting out of those for some reason... :suspect:

the bright side is that there will be lots of dirt cheap single player games each year. I would be worried that the games turn virtually into an online subscription and so there is no pressure to make any improvements

I believe Sytem Shock 3 is only System Shock 3 in name.. I think EA own the rights to the name, and are now looking to cash in on it.

The true follow up from the creators of the original System shocks, is BioShock (http://uk.gamespot.com/xbox360/action/bioshock/screenindex.html)

Crysis is the game you mean. and that's nothing to do with EA. Crytek are their own company.. At best, EA would be the publisher.

There's a horrible thing in the industry whereby the publishers seem to gain the noteriety for the developers sweat, blood and tears..

It would be the same as people raving about the latest film from Warner Bros, rather than the director that made it.

On the whole, the publishers just front up the money, provide the advertising, and impose stupid deadlines on the developers.

I believe that is the last thing EA want. They want people to pay full price for their games each year. Where other games might offer downloadable content to supplement an existing game, it strikes me that EA want to avoid that route altogether. If they offered updated rosters to download instead of next year's Madden or a new golf course or two instead of releasing a full Tiger Woods game, they wouldn't be getting as much of our money. Switching off online play for year old games is EA's mechanism by which they ensure online players have to keep paying full price.

Won't they make more money cutting out the middle man high street retailers?
