Hi there,

Had my Sky activated yesterday with Sky + and my god is the Damm thing noisy!

Anyone else had any problems with Fan noise from them and how they got it sorted?

it's just something you have to put up with mate :( For me, it's the hard drive whirring away - but you get used to it :)

ah yeah it could be the Hard drive rather then the fan....

its the hard drive. some are noisier than others.

the best way to connect is via a decent quality scart lead into an RGB enabled scart socket.

cheers

The noise will probably die down after a while. My v.2 Amstrad box used to have a constant high pitched whine whenever it was switched on, but after about 3 weeks it quietened down. It wasn't just me getting used to it, it really did get quieter. However you do notice the difference from when it's switched on to when it's switched off, which is something you just have to put up with.
As others have said a good quality full wired scart lead to an RGB enabled scart socket on your TV, with the output on the sky box set to RGB instead of composite will give you the best picture.

I'm guessing the box you recieved was either a Thomson or an Amstrad as the Pace boxes are said to be dead silent. If this is the case, then yes they are quite noisy I'm afriad(Its usually the fan, I think it is in mine) however just bear with it a while, and the noise does die down, When I recieved my Thomson box, I was stunned how much noise it made, but after about 1-2 months of good solid use, the noise died down a lot and now its virtually dead quiet, I do still hear the fan a little, but I've got used to it now anyway.
Sadly I do have to turn off my box each night, because although the noise is minor, it would still keep me up all night, but at least with the box turned off, it creates no noise. I have another Sky + box anyway in the living room if I need to record anything in the middle of the night.
Also if you hear a lot of ticking coming from the box, turn off Instant rewind on the box, and it stops. Now I dont know how anyone else feels, but IMO this is not an important feature of Sky + for me, and so never use it, so I personally dont mind having it off. Seriously its a stupid feature anyway, who honestly rewinds live TV, Its just a big gimmick Sky Made in the features of the box, I dont think in the few years we have had Sky Plus, we have never used this feature on either of our boxes

I use instant rewind all of the time - for example if I get home from work at 5 to 7 and just miss the local weather forecast to make that bike/car decision for tomorrow...

It not only enables you to rewind Live TV but to record a program from the beginning - never watched 30 minutes of a film then wished you'd recorded it?

When I actually watch live TV, I use IR quite a lot, especially during football or if I misheard something
