Getting a Marantz 5200 next week I believe this has an on screen display. Is this like the display on your tv that goes up when you turn the volume up etc.? Or is it just a display screen for setup procedure?

If the display is for volume level etc. then does this mean I would need to route my dvd sky etc. through the amp therefore having to use s-video connections an amplifier component switching or can I still connect my kit up to my tv through rgb scart??
As I imagine it if my kit is connected up the normal way then I would need to switch input source on my tv to see the amp display! Not much good if it's a volume level etc display!

Hope you can follow what I mean!

Perhaps it would save a lot of bother If I say the 5200 has both an on-screen display - that shows the volume (as a simple bar) and also a proper menu system - and a front panel LED display that shows the volume as a dB rating as well as all the sound mode, speaker usage, FM Channel display etc. So no matter what you've got connected you'll be able to check the volume via the front panel display.

To see the setup menus though you will need to have the TV connected to the amp via the Monitor phono or TV S-Video connections (or some kind of pass-through from those to the TV)

Thanks BobP I thought that would be the way of things!
Will report back after I get my amp if I have any problems
Thanks again.

I used the OSD on my Yammy, connected via composite just to aid in setting the thing up. For general use I just use the front panel display.

I have a 5200 and used the OSD via S-Video to my TV. Once I had set up all the levels I just use the display on the amp to chack everything.
The OSD on the 5200 is [thankfully] basic enough to get you up and running. I still haven't read the manual through yet.:)
Good thing about these amps and mobern home cinema technology is that you don't have to keep tweaking and changing settings. Once done, it's mostly all you need.

Boink!
