I've got a Sanyo mini Hi-Fi (3 disc, twin cassette etc), which is just over 5 yesrs old now.
For some reason i'm having a lot of trouble playing CD's, sometimes they work, sometimes they skip and jump like a scratched record, but mostly the player just says NO DISC. The only disc that plays OK is the cleaning disc (which I've tried 14 times now in total, and have also tried it in each of the three CD slots.
The CD's are fine and have no scratches and alos play fine on the PC and in the DVD player, so it's not faulty CD's.
Am I right in my assumption that there could be a problem with the laser and that it's knackered? Or does anyone have any other ideas?
Cheers

Yeah, sounds like the laser's knackered. Ideal excuse to upgrade to a proper sound system - seperates. :p

I wish! On my budget I'll be lucky if I can afford the plug:(

I've been looking for replacements and this one seems to fit the bill, but what are your opinions on it?
Sharp CDDP2400H £200 in Dixons/£158 at EmpireDirect/£165 at Unbeatable - guess which one I will go for:D*
3-Disc Autochanger
2 Band Radio (FM/MW)
RDS
Remote
Twin-Cassette
This is basically what my current (knackered) system has, but this Sharp also adds Dolby Pro-Logic and 3 Extra Speakers (gives 5 in total) - 1 Centre and 2 Rear for surround. Which I quite like the sound of as at the moment I only have a Nicam TV and the DVD sound going through the Hi-Fi anyway. A full blown DD5.1 or DTS system is out of the question at the moment:(
So, anyone got/tried one?
Cheers
*You were probably wrong:p as it's Unbeatable - they don't charge extra for delivery to the IW, EmpireDirect Do:(
Currys have an all in one system DD,DTS sub 5 speakers amp, DVD player machine by Panasonic for £299...surely that is a better buy

It would be, but another £100+ is out of my price range:(
Your laser might be OK . It might have moved slightly and need adjusting. It seems (to me) a common fault especially in 3 CD tray auto changers . The next CD I buy will only have space for 1 cd ..less to go wrong.

Not necessarily.
You could get the Yamaha RXV396 DD receiver for £120 from Richers, and a Sony 220 CD player for £50 (on special offer at the mo)
Then use the speakers you already have, and add others as funds allow. A reasonable set of fronts and a centre (use your current speakers as rears) can be had for as little as £70 or so.

I would wait and save the extra money, in 6months or what ever it takes you wont regret it.
Or as Someone has said use Richer Sounds...
Use what U have now if it has a Tuner in it so that you can still leason to music and/or Tape desk...
If you R going to do a job job it right..and on a tight budghet that may not get better in the future, I would hang on a bit and save that little bit extra..
(Try the reduction in Cigs if you some or the reduction in that extra pinta if you drink - it will soon add up !!)
Good Luck !!
