Just watched this after getting in the sale at MVC for £8 (Thanks again MVC !) and I absolutely loved it. It has left me hungry for more of the same ! What should be next on my wishlist for Kung-Fu films of this style ? Does it get any better ?

The closest would be:
OUATIC 2
Tai Chi Master
Heroes Among Heroes
cthd:D

i'd also recommend In The Line Of Duty (4) for more grounded woo-ping style action

try Dragons Den and search for "woo-ping"

Not a Woo-Ping film, but still immensely enjoyable is Fong Sai Yuk. (or The Legend as it's known in US & UK)

Ringos have a R2 Martial Sale on at the moment, and they have Drunken Tai Chi available for £9 delivered. The quality of the DVD is poor TBH, but it's not cropped much (2.35:1 to 2:1) and is a worthy addition to any Donnie Yen & Woo-Ping fan's collection.

You could also try Samo Hung's Encounters Of A Spooky Kind, which isn't quite as action packed as Iron Monkey & doesn't have much in the way of wire-fu, but the choreography is truly stunning & the film is a lot of fun.

From the HKL range, I'd definitely recommend all of the following:

OUATIC 1+2 (+3 soon)
Police Story
Miracles
Game of Death 2 (Yuen Woo-ping action - old school)
Fist of Fury
Way of the Dragon
Big Boss
Game of Death (only for the 2nd disc!)
In the line of Duty
Magnificent Butcher
Encounters of the Spooky Kind
Eastern Condors

from www.dddhouse.com (cheap like the budgie) I'd recommend the following to start!
Fong Sai Yuk
Righting Wrongs
Prodigal Son (will be released by HKL)
Mr Vampire (will be released by HKL)
Gorgeous (not the R2 version)
Saviour of the Soul

of course, check out the list quaoted in an earlier post, and look for 4 + 5 star reviews at Dragons Den :D

I a word, No.
I paid £20 for my copy of Iron Monkey and would happily pay full price for it again tomorrow! Brilliant film isn’t it, and IMO better than all the OUATIC films by a mile (shock horror!).
Superb film on a classy DVD, its just a shame that more people didn’t realise how good this film was, and to sell it for £8 is a disgrace (although well done for getting it at that price!(

Ooooo don't know about that Welshlad :)

While Iron Monkey is a great film there are a number of Kung Fu titles that are better IMO, which is what it all comes down to though isn't it? :)

I have to agree there are many brilliant Kung-fu movies out. My recomendations would have to be:
Drunken Master 1/2
Snake In The Eagles Shadow
Once Upon A Time In China 1/2/3/america
Fong Sai Yuk 1/2 - i prefer the 2nd one
Drive - Check out Medussa's DVD for this one as it's top class.

Poker Industries (http://pokerindustries.com/acatalog/) have it, but it'll cost you around £16.50 delivered.

Iron Monkey is a great film, if you loved this one try some of the old Jackie Chan and Sammo Hung films which you will find nice and cheap at Play247 at the moment.

Boink!

It's about time these excellent films got the wider audience they deserve. So looking forward to Mr. Vampire.

Allow me, if you will Yang, to be a pedantic git & state that CTHD & A Touch of Zen aren't HK films!! I prefer CTHD to Drive anyday, but Drive is definitely the best HK type action film not set in China or HK. ;) :D :D
BTW I haven't seen you around here for a while m8!! Remember the Kung Fu poll?? You put the list up in 2 forums?? One was DVDTalk, the other I can't remember. Could you give me the URL of that other forum please??
Thanx!!
(oh, & Happy New Year)

Absolutely…would be awfully boring if we all liked the same. :)
I guess the reason I liked it so much was partly due to the fact that I knew so little about it, and decided just to ‘take a chance’ on it, then when I watched it was immensely impressed with it.
Maybe I was being a bit strong by saying it doesn’t get any better, but of all the HK movies I have seen, its certainly up there with the best…don’t you think?

Definately :) As for others similar that are easily available it's pretty much been outlined already. My favourites inc

Magnificent Butcher
OUATIC
Drive
Prodigal Son - I'm really looking forward to the HKL release
CTHD
Tai Chi Master
Drunken Master 2 - a lot harder to get hold of altough you could go with the R1 release
Fong Sai Yuk
Fist Of Legend - again hard to get hold of
