Can anyone recommend which cdr's to use for vcd's with the Samsung 709.

Have looked on 709-online but really wanted the input from the people on these forums.

cheers

CDRs of some brands may or may not work. Most won't. Those that do may not do so reliably. You would be safer using CDRW discs - which almost certainly WILL work OK.

I've tried Maxell CD-R (650MB) and HP CD-RWs. They work on my particular 709, but it gives the drive mechanism a serious workout when you load the disc or use any search/pause functions (CD-RW loading can literally take literally 1 - 2 minutes!)

I'm sure that can't be good for the player, but there you go...

I think the more "silvery" the reflective coating, the better the discs will work. Deep blue and green coatings do not work at all, but the more cyan-silver types tend to stand a better chance IMO. Also note that apparently not all 709s have the same laser pickup assemblies, so it really also depends on your particular machine.

Only ones that will work are:

'Princo' also sold under the name of 'Datasafe' buy from computer fairs or www.121cdr.co.uk

'VivaStar' sold at Argos.
