View Full Version : R4 Prices
Ordered Shaolin Soccer today from DDDHouse in Honk Kong (http://www.dddhouse.com)
One thing that struck me after reading loads of references to regions other than R! / 2 is that they are much much much much cheaper...
Rush Hour 2 for example works out at 9 squid with todays exchange rate from HK$ even with delivery (£1 approx HK$11.2).
Stating the obvious I know but wowsers! Just shows you the mark ups by the distributors in R1 and R2!

..er, no it doesn't - it shows how the exchange rate favours importing from Hong Kong and Australia at the moment..

You should order from them if all you're worried about is reliability. Without a doubt dddhouse is a very good HK company and along with Hivizone one of the best companies out there if you want HK dvds.

Problem mate is that if you order from R3 which is Hong Kong, you will lose all of the extras of RH2, probably a poorer picture and you may lose the DTS track - just ain't worth it from Hong Kong!

I think thats a bit unfair. I have recently bought shaolin soccer, battle royale and seven samurai from DDDHouse and have found the transfers to be great (they are often the same as the region 1 versions), and two of the titles I bought had DTS tracks as well as dolby digital. True the extras aren`t always up to much, but for the price I can`t see that they are bad buys. In fact, I`m just off to order series 7 the contenders from them, and probably a couple of martial arts flicks as well. Region 3 is great, as long as you make sure of what is on the disk before you buy it.
Rant over

Average wages are higher in Europe and the US, which affects both manufacturing costs and the buying power of DVD consumers.
When I first went to the Czech Republic, I couldn't believe that beer cost about 25p a pint - but when a Czech friend told me that the average monthly wage then was about £200, that rather put things in perspective!

Hi,
If we buy DVDs from either HK or Australia, do we need to pay custom in UK. What are the max nos of DVds we can order at one time without paying any custom fees.
Cheers
Asad
the magic number is £18 if you don't want HMC&E having a sniff. Anymore and you run the risk of VAT and other charges on top of what you paid.
Having said that, customs normally operate by value declarations from the companies involved - this opens up a certain level of discretion as some nice companies out there mark their packages down, etc. Some other suppliers are 'customs-free' too through other ways...

or they can mark it as a gift, and then I think your allowance goes up to £36. Or there abouts.

That's only supposed to apply to packages from individual to individual, not companies. Hence it never works with Amazon.com in my experience. :(
