WARNING LONG POST - but please take time to read there are a couple of questions at the end.

I've always been a PC gamer through and through all my life. I have never owned a console before (Wifey bought me a PSP a year ago, does that count?) and was reading on the DVDforums that Gamescubes was going cheap.

I was in bath and saw a deal of a GC + 4games for £42, bought a second controller and 3 more games and the total was £90. Took it home and set the whole thing up and started playing.

Soul Calibre 2
MarioKart Doule Dash
Burnout 2
Star Wars Rouge Sq
Timesplitters 2
etc

I found these to be ok with only Mario only being really fun for a while. I was surprised at how rubbish the picture quality was on my Tosh 40" widescreen set, very blurry with a lot of fizzing. And i wasn't happy how many games weren't in widescreen, only SC2 was. And i released how bad controlling FPS were on a consoles after many years of using the mouse and keyboard combination.

So this weekend i took the whole thing back and got store credit along with some DVD's. Looking around i was they were selling an Xbox for £65 brand new. so i thought, buy the hardware new and get the games second hand. There were so many games to choose from and more my kind of games. Also the games that have been released on all formats were much cheaper on the Xbox second hand. (example, Burnout 3 was never released on GC but was cheaper on the Xbox then Burnout 2 on the GC).

Picture quality was so much better then the GC and almost ALL the games were in widescreen  I felt I got the right console for me at last.

Question 1 - I have a Tosh 40" widescreen RPTV with Sony Amp and surround sound. What’s the best way to hook this up for best Video and Audio? I heard there's something called the 'AV pack' were can i get this and what does this contain?

Question 2 - What games do you recommend? I don't want FPS but I’m into Fighting and driving games. Also I’m not interested in games that i can get for the PC because if it is available then I will get it for the PC. So far I’ve got

Project Gotham Racing 2
Forza Motorsport
Burnout 3:Takedown
Soul Calibur II
Dead or Alive 3
Super Monkey Ball Deluxe
Mortal Kombat: Deception

And i'm thinking of getting:

Ninja Gaiden Black
Jet Set Radio Future
MechAssault 2
Battlestar Galatica

Any more recommendations? Are there any decent flight games? Thanks people for reading

Essential Xbox games here:-

I imagine best is RGB via Scart. Don't know about RPTV?
I use S-Video. Pretty good anyhow.
I got the Joytech all in one. Scart, S-Video, also optical digital. About £10 to £15

Fighting and driving, eh. Well I'm playing San Andreas at the moment. Bit of both there.

I take it the GC did not have RGB Scart lead with it, other wise it would look pants.

I'd definitely go for Ninja Gaiden, fantastic game, though pretty hard. The first level boss is a complete nightmare the first time through but once you get the hang of it it's a fantastic game.

Most consoles come with composite leads as standard, so will look crap on pretty much any TV, let alone a 40" one! RGB scart is the best option if you don't have an HDTV, otherwise component is the one to go for (you'd need to soft-mod your Xbox for this, do a search for more details).

To connect to your amp, the official MS cables have an optical out socket on them. Make sure to enable to 5.1 options in the Xbox dashboard.

Component works fine on a standard X-Box, you only need to soft mod it if you want to get progressive scan (though of course, it's likely that if you're using component you'll probably want to use Prog scan as well)
