Just noticed on Bill & Ted's Bogus Journey:) , that this disc is encoded for Region 1 NTSC and Region4 NTSC.

Is this a new trend ?

Yes. There have a few NTSC R4 releases in recent months.

Damn you Warner. [Shakes fist in anger]

Most US Warner discs are now dual coded, and other studios are starting to do this too (although unlike Warner don't have the cheek to release them in Australia). It is designed for the South American market (Portuguese subbies are a giveaway), but Australia inevitably cops the blowback of this policy.

Not a new trend , also mentioned they do this for Mexico also along with South America for when they don't do a seperte releases for them. They are R4 but use the NTSC format.

I have noticed this CTS, MGM (Bill & Ted) and Warner Bros R1 releases.

Maybe I don't understand the point. Is it, in some way, wrong, for the Australian catalogue to benefit from the additional titles that can be easily made available to them via this route, rather than their having to wait for the studios to get around to remastering them?

Funny this thread should appear as I have just seen 10th Kindom in HMV with R2 NTSC on the packaging

Some people prefer the PAL version and consider it superior, albeit running slightly faster, to the NTSC version. Personally, I can't tell any difference on my tv. Perhaps my eyes are not up to it :( Likewise, I don't notice the difference in pitch but I put this down to having stood in front of a 100W Marshall stack for too many yeras :D

If Australia are to benefit by earlier release dates then I see nothing wrong with it. Although I'm sure there are some who'll disagree . . .
