I'm going to be getting an LG 4710 to replace my Sony DVD player at the end of the week ( I NEED multiregion :D)
I have read that the LG has "No DD 5.1 decoder".
I have a Dolby Digital decoder in my TV (Toshiba 32" flat widescreen 100hz). It has 2 satalite speakers, left, right, centre speaker (under the screen) and a built in subwoofer (aparently)
Will i still get Dolby Digital sounds using this player. Is DD 5.1 different to Dolby Digital or will i need to exchange it again ?
Sorry if this is all comon knowledge but i am new to all this :D
Oh, and can someone tell me what "DTS" is and if i have it in my set up (I have the 32zd90B here: http://www.home-entertainment.toshiba.co.uk/consumer/home.nsf) ?

Thanks for any help

As long as your TV has a digital input (coax or optical) you should be fine.

Errm, not the aerial coax, obviously :)

the spec says you have a optical and coax terminal (inputs I presume) so you need either of these 2 as Neon says. No need for a dvd player with decoder.

Dolby Digital 5.1 is the 5.1 channel (c, l, r, rear l, rear r, and subwoofer) version of DD, there are others like 2 channel 2.0. DTS is a rival to DD and has a higher bitrate (I think) and should in theory be better quality, to me, its louder, clearer, slightly better separation, and bassier. The specs for your TV on that site doesn't say DTS so unless its wrong, your TV doesn't support it. :)

Thanks guys.
I have Coaxial and Optical digital inputs on the back of the telly but the DVD player only has coax out so i will be using that (when i get a lead)
So, just to confirm. I DON'T need a 5.1 decoder in the DVD player as my TV has one built in so i should still get the correct sounds out of the correct speakers ?
