Its a good disc of a very average film.
Not one of HKL's best or must have release's.

Check out my review here (http://www.dvddebate.com/article.php?sid=2433). If you've seen and enjoyed the excellent Danish movie Pusher, then you should enjoy Beast Cops. I loved it. Just don't expect alot of action ala 2000AD/Purple Storm.

It is a very good character study with some excellent psychotic/bloody moments....

I think Beastcop is an intelligent triad movie which is something far and few between in the movie industry. Highly recommended!

£16.99 in Woolies.

Well worth buying. This is a splendid and intelligently written film that never does quite what you expect a HK movie to do. The action is kept to a minimum, and is actually quite horrid at times - especially towards the end. There's even some comedy mixed in for good measure, allthough it wasn't my favourite part of the movie.

As far as I know this is uncut.

Though I haven't seen the HKL release, my old vhs copy is worn with watching... It really is one of my favourite Hong Kong movies. Though it is a police/triad thriller, it is spectacularly unlike any other movie I can bring to mind - it certainly has more in common with Abel Ferrara, hardcore Ringo Lam and the Wong Kar Wai of Fallen Angels than most of Gordan Chans other work (Fist of Legend, 2000AD). It's about the personal rather than the procedural, about real, human, fallible characters.

Plus it has the greatest performance of one of HK's greatest actors, Anthony Wong, support from the mighty Roy Cheung and Sam Lee and some great jokes about condoms. :D
