I like mine, it a very similar model no. to yours. The only gripe i have with it is the geometry is not particularly good and the usual accesses to the service menu won't work on it.

If your TV (or you) has not died, or there are others with an interest -

You hold the Vol + and - on the tv for 5 secs.
And whilst still holding press the menu button on the remote for 5 secs.

If anyone wishes further info (eg what do those cryptic 3 letter codes mean), post to here.

Regards,
Rob

 Sorry Rob not got an Hitachi but your quoted comment made me laugh as (you have seen) the OP was nearly 7 years ago.

Is there a way to turn off any backlighting on that service menu thing?
Hope my posting is legible, and helps to answer your question.

Thanks Pete, it was my way of preventing 'flaming' by others.

This is to any Hitachi owners that have used the Service Menu -

The Picture is bigger than the visible screen
I will need to narrow it Horizontally and Vertically, and perhaps centre it.
Any suggestions as to the areas that I may need to tweak ?

Also in my earlier fumbling around (prior to getting the Service Manual), I found that escaping/canceling was not idiot proof (I did not manage to Cancel, and had to Save).
The manual does not discuss getting in or out of the Service menu, so any advice on how to Cancel would be great.

Thanks,
Rob

PS Anyone wishing a free copy of the Owner and/or Service manual ?

I had a wee peruse of those settings, and I don't think there is one.

Possibly it is the lack of darkness in your greys ?
There is a setting in the normal menu (not the Service Menu), called Black Stretch. It is in the 'Picture' menu, in the sub menu 'More'.
I have that ticked, as it gets rid of that 'washed out' look.
And I have the contrast set to high.
My picture looks terrific.
I am using the RGB setting in the Scart.

HTH,
Rob
