Dog Day Afternoon R2 - great film, average disc.
Austin Powers: IMoM and WWF: Stone Cold in a 2 for £30 at Virgin were my first 2 purchases. Got them a week before my Sammy 709 arrived!
Got the DVDs and player in about April/May 2000 for my birthday in May
I bought The Matrix and Go in a 'two for thirty quid' thing at Virgin. It was a while back now maybe around September 99......
Matrix (R2) in Dec 99. Since exchanged for R4 thanks to this Forum.
My first ever DVD was 'Out of Sight' (R1) which I asked my parents to get for me whilst out in the US in early 1999. First one I actually bought was American Pie : Unrated (R1) I seem to recall, and was my first order with DVD Box Office. That was nearly 450 discs ago.
Note to self : must drastically prune DVD purchases this year (with over 10 already on pre-order for early 2002!)

I bought Goodfellas when I bought my player, my fave film of all time. The thing is that it's a flipper, and in all my wisdom I believed that all DVDs were made that way. Now a silly amount of DVDs later it's still my fave film what a terrible DVD for extras and the like.
Special Edition please:)
Pokemon 2000 R1 on the 01/01/01 from some nice woman in Scotland of Ebay.

OK, I got the R2 Godzilla with my DVD player (Still have it!) I then purchased R2 Leathel Weapon 4 from Virgin Megastores. Then got it chipped (£80!!!) and the mass DVD purchasing started.
Sold LW4 to get the uncut R1 for a tenner! :D

Mine were Sleepy Hollow and Mystery Men from a buy-one-get-one-half-price sale in Woolworths.
Bought them before the player which was a mistake considering I had to take it back :(
My first was Lethal Weapon 4 (R2)
"Sold LW4 to get the uncut R1 for a tenner! "
Uncut? damn it :(

Bring It On (R1), back in March 2001 from DVD Box Office. That film made me a Kirsten Dunst fan! :D
LA Confidential (R2) back in December 1999 before I even had a player. :D
Armageddon r2, after my player was delivered in Nov 99 and I realised I had nothing to test it with :p
My first ever DVD was Midnight Express (R2) from HMV for £19.99 in early 2000. I absolutely adored that film - I gradually came to know a lot more about DVD, though.
I am now a DVD addict with my own DVD player and plenty of DVDs... help me get out of this life!!!!!!11111111 ;)
The epic I Still Know What You Did Last Summer. Jennifer Love Hewitt's in it, man!
The Matrix in 1999 from DVDExpress in the good old days :)
Got my Sammy 709 2 months later and my credit card has never been the same
Paul.
The Corrs - Live At The Royal Albert Hall and Merlin back in June 1999. My first 'film' was Armageddon from Play later that month.

matrix region 1 :)
TWINE - From Tesco £17.99... D'oh!
T'was the night before Christmas.... err, well not quite, mid December of the year 1999 - I had placed the order for my first ever DVD player, and before I even got hold of it I rushed off to my local Tescos and for the sum of £16.99 got myself a brand spanking new copy of The Matrix...
...before I found out the film was cut and £17 was a ripoff. Ah well ya win some, ya lose some.

That'll be Bad Boys and Ghostbusters from WH Smith in a Buy One Get One Half Price offer - back in July this year (when I got me DVD player).
150 discs later (I've now got a total of 152! ) and Ghostbusters still ranks as one of my faves.
I might add that all 152 have been bought in the last 5 months!
The Matrix (R2) and two others I can't remember from WHSmiths as I got some gift vouchers for Xmas, they were doing 3 for 2, and if I bought them, I'd have to buy a DVD player to watch them......
Ahhhh memories....... Iron Giant R2 and Contact R2 in a by two for £20 Virgin offer.
First trade on the DVDclassifieds was Beastie Boys Criterion.
Snake eyes, before I realized that DVDs should have special features!
Blade (R2) - Way back in August 99
:)
Mummy R2 before I discovered the forums and got my played chipped.

hmm...
I bought Urban Legend and I Still Know What You Did Last Summer in a WH Smith 2 for £30 thing on the way to pick up my little Wharfedale back in December '99.
I believe it was the cover of I Still Know... with Jennifer Love Hewitt which finally drove me to get a DVD Player :D

The first DVD I ever tried on my player was a rented copy of Father's Day in February 1999 -- I really wanted to try out my player, and of the extremely poor selection of discs at my local rental store this was the best!
My first purchased DVD was the following month - Lethal Weapon 4 - because I wanted to see what extras were like. Little did I know the R1 edition was much better...
The Mask Of Zorro Region 1 way back in January 98 - still a lovely little disc even though its been replaced by a special edition now.
My god - I now have over 260 DVD's I need to stop (I want to buy a house!)
StarShip Troopers R1 in Mid 1998 was my first on. Picked up in the Mall of America in the USSA (the USA biggest shopping center)
Well worth a visit....
Contact R2 which IIRC I bought in April 1999.

R2's "Batman & Robin" for testing the audio, back in July of 1998.

Nearly.
I got I know What You Did Last Summer in October '97.
I'd imported a Panasonic A310 and it was so bloody frustrating
waiting to get something to play on it.
Had 3 more machines since and I'm considering upgrading again.
Damn this hobby !!.

Although I'm embarrased to admit it,if my memory serves me correctly it was a copy of Friends that my missus picked up when we got our DVD drive in the PC.This was in October '99, I then brought The Mummy and in March the following year brought my Sammy 709 and joined these here forums (had to change names for technical reasons). You may be amazed to know I still haven't cracked the 100 mark although I'm now on my second player and have spent a bomb on hardware.

LA Confidential & Tin Cup together way back in January 99.
R2 Life is Beautiful in January 2000 from Blackstar, the only online DVD retailer I knew about at the time. I had just bought a DVD-ROM drive and watched the DVD with rather poor software decoding on my PII 233 with its 15 inch monitor. I subsequently moved to a hardware decoder and a 17", before finally getting myself a Pioneer DV444.
The Rock R1 back in Feb 98 which I paid £24:nuts:
Species and Goldeneye! Way back 190 discs ago in 1998. Sold Goldeneye to get the SE when that came out though.

American History X for me. Came out of the Cinema and thought Wow, got to see that film again, brutal ending.
Paid about £18 I think from DC-DVD. when it still seemed to be a home based opperation. Had to send a cheque as no online ordering.
The Thin Red Line or was it MIB, bugger I forgot.
Fight Club R1 for me, back in June last year, 2 months before I got my first player, from reel.com
I got it with $10 off after answering all those movie trivia questions they used to do, remember that? 709 online was a godsend then, giving us the answer every day ;)
I bought Grosse Point Blank the day before the courier delivered my trusty Sony 725.

I got The Thing R1 quickly followed by Starship Troopers from DVD Box Office in September 98.
Can't believe I paid just shy of £600 for my player (Sony S715) in October 98 - its still going strong though.
I was in the USA in April '97 about the time of the launch and was very, very tempted to get a player and some discs then - player was $399 - can't remember how much the discs were then - but there were just the Warner titles available, Batman, Exorcist and the like.

Emergency purchase of The Matrix and A Bugs Life (think it was a buy one get one cheaper deal) in Blockbusters in Reading when we realised that we'd got all the right cables from Richer Sounds to make the new dvd player, amp and speakers work but we didn't have a disc to play! Must've been about Feb 2000
Both great movies, my first experience of the wonders of DVD and blew me away with the new setup - Don't think I've bought another disc from Blockbuster since tho...
