alright then.. these are going cheaper than usual at the mo, so i wondered what's the general opinion on recommended/classic releases by the Carry On team, and Norman Wisdom (and why.. add spoilers)..
Carry On Up The Kyber
Carry on nurses/doctor (i forget which.. with barbara windsor almost starkers on the operating table?)
And what's the norman wisdom one where he's a window cleaner?
all kinds of shananigans..
but which are highly recommended works of Brit comedy at it's finest?
The carry on films are not a great purchase on dvd. Poor picture quality, 4:3 picture and no extras.
If you can play region 1 discs Anchor Bay are releasing some later this year:
this is there website if you want to browse the forthcoming releases:

thanks for the info and the link.
i kinda guessed that the R2 releases were bare bone discs, but it didn't really bother me.
however if anchor bay surpass themselves and give some of these classic brit coms the extra value treatment, it should be worth a look..
I am a great fan of Carry on films and I rented all the current releases before deciding not to buy them due to the poor picture quality.
To be honest i don't expect Anchor Bay to have a shed load of extras but a decent 16 x 9 transfer would be great.
Just had a look at the Anchor Bay website and the titles are listed for release in July-Dec '02:
Carry On Nurse & Carry On Sergeant
Carry On Teacher & Carry On Constable
Carry On Regardless & Carry On Cruising
Carry On Cabby & Carry On Spying
Carry On Cleo & Carry On Jack
Carry On Cowboy & Carry On Screaming Double
Carry On Collection, The - Box Set
Wonder what extras they may include? I can't see me buying them again as I've only just got most of the R2 discs.
Interesting to see the Alec Guinness 4-disc set is out in the first half of 2002 (The Lavender Hill Mob, The Ladykillers, The Man In The White Suit, Kind Hearts and Coronets, plus a bonus disc of Captains Paradise). Hope the price isn't too high for this nice looking collection.
"Wonder what extras they may include? "
It would be very difficult to provide any extras I think. Most of the cast have been dead for years.
I suppose they could get 'Babs' to do her usual Carry On speech and link it with a few clips. Like I said before a decent transfer is most important.
As for the Alec Guiness collection - I can't wait.
I am sitting here typing this with the tune to The Ladykillers running around my head! ;)
