View Full Version : Must have R4 DVD's?
Seeing as DVDCrave have this 10% off code at the moment, what are the MUST have R4 discs?
Already got :-
Natural Born Killers
Pulp Fiction
The Dish
Moulin Rouge
JFK 2-disc
Face/Off
Also ordered Swordfish from them the other day.
Just checked True Lies & it's showing as Out Of Stock
What others should I be having a look at?
there's some good cheap titles at the moment, I do know you should be looking at devoted.com.au instead of crave, they're cheaper on most single titles shipped
Of the current releases, some of the best editions in R4 are:
The Matrix (uncut)
True Lies (uncut) *
Pulp Fiction **
* Due for R1 SE in 2002
** Long awaited Criterion edition yet to be announced
Forgot to put Pulp Fiction in my "Already have" list!!! Will edit it in now
The R4 version of True Lies is excellent. A definite must have :)
The R4 Moulin Rouge is also top quality - nicely packaged (although getting the discs in and out was damned tricky at first) - and a darn sight cheaper than R1. Oh, and it's out now as opposed to the R2 release

Newly released 30th Anniversary edition of Walkabout looks tasty.

i've not seen any reviews, but the picture seemed great to me, i'm no expect though :) it's anamprohic in it's correct 2.35:1 ratio, the sound is normal stereo. there's around 5 short but good extras about david lynch and a bit about other cast members and thier views on the film.
i definatly recommend it :)
i just looked on ezydvd's page and it says it's being re-released on the 2nd of Jan, the specs look identical to the one i got a couple of months ago.
Moulin Rouge
Usual Suspects
True Lies
Just bought True Lies and Con Air SE from DVDCrave for just over £20 delivered. Sorry Jonny G, I may have snagged the last True Lies for now.:D
Boink!:)

A decent release of Groundhog Day is imminent (early Jan). It has some sort of featurette called "The Weight of Time" and a commentary by director Harold Ramis.
The R1 and R2 discs are just bare-bones and have an uninspiring 2.0 soundtrack, so this is definitely one to seek out.

'Encino Man' is about £5 from ezydvd, might be as cheap at devoted... Non-anamorphic, but a very good picture for an n/a disc. Not to everyones taste though... :p

Dunno about "must have", but if you want The Mummy Returns R4 is the way to go as it's uncut, includes the DTS audio and erm, is PAL.
Strange Days R4 is the best version currently out, as it's uncut and anamorphic.

The R1 SE is also on the way with the extras of the new R4 plus a dts soundtrack.

Yep, end of Jan for the R1 though and some people are more impatient than others!. The old PAL vs NTSC debate is relevant aswell....
I had a quick scout round after reading your post and apparently an R2 SE is nearly ready too! (Feb 18th). I couldn't find any trustworthy information about the audio format, so I'm not sure which version will be the best.
R4 will definitely be first though as it's available from this wednesday.

Well, in the MichaelDVD review they did rate it is the best release available, even rating it ahead of the Criterion release... so, at the price it seems to be an absolute bargain which I will be running out and buying at lunch time :)
regards, Tim...
Definitely get the Spike Lee triple pack. Just over £17 gets you
Do the Right Thing (extras very similar to Criterion)
Clockers
Jungle Fever
all in a nice 3 disc package. Well, well worth it as they are three fantastic films (especially Do the Right Thing which is worth the £17 on its own.).

Out of left field:
Champagne Comedy (the best bits of The Late Show) is a six hour compilation of REALLY silly live comedy by the team that made The Dish and The Castle. There is also a six hour commentary done in one sitting. So if you like 'undergraduate' humour, buy this.
The Dream with Roy & HG Nelson is a (I think) 7 hour compilation of interviews and wacky stuff done during the Sydney olympics. It's hard to describe but if you like sport this is highly recommended (and you'll never view the gymnastics the same way again:nuts:
Both cost around AU$50 and are well worth it.
Whats been cut from True Lies? - re the uncut version here...?
