View Full Version : What should i do for the wife. :) Camera problem.
Her birthday is in a couple weeks time.
Cast your mind back to a bit of a bargain at the time for a Canon A60 Digital camera in the bargain forum at Amazon for £99.99 I got one for her.
My new dilema is she wants a teleconvertor lens to zoom a little closer.
What should i do. Pay for the lense costing in excess of £79 It's the Canon TC-DC52 which would also require an adaptor £14.99.
In total thats more than the camera is worth now!!
This is the camera (http://www.thedvdforums.com/jump2.php?url=http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/ASIN/B0000C6YJO/thedvdforums-21)
So wouldn't mind paying another £100 nicker if she was getting a better camera + better zoom. Know what i mean.
Can anyone recommend a decent good zoomed camera or maybe a better price for the Lens.
I did find a TC-DC52A but that seems to be for the A80 upwards.
Anyway lmk what you good people think.
Regards
Jed.
If you can afford it and sell her old camera maybe this panny (http://www.thedvdforums.com/jump2.php?url=http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/ASIN/B000EN5P30/thedvdforums-21) is supposed to be pretty good (see dpreview) but it really depends on what you want to spend. If you are maxing out at say £150 you could go for somethins like this:
kodak (http://www.thedvdforums.com/jump2.php?url=http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/ASIN/B0007Q3568/thedvdforums-21)
Review http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/kodakz740/page12.asp
Maybe look on amazon etc in your price range and then look on reviews on dpreview..
also there's a whole forum here for cameras you know ;)
OOP's Forgot about that. :)
Thanks for that DB2K
So all in all do you think yourself that it is not worth paying for the lens.
MODS PLEASE MOVE TO CORRECT FORUM. Sorry
I'm with db2k no point in splashing out close to £100 on a 2mp camera unless you can get one suitably cheap 2nd hand on ebay.

There are two to bid for but still have a few days each and two to buy for a decent price but shipped from China :( So not really worth the risk.
Cheers

I`ve a T/C for my canon a40 and to be honest, it a pain taking/putting on all the time.
Not the actual clipping it on but having to take it off for w/a shots and then replacing it for tele shots, its just easier to walk forward a few paces.
Plus it affects the f-stop on the camera and in dull light it can be difficult to get a sharp picture and I also find it makes the camera top heavy.
I went from the A60 to the S2... I know that's probably more than you want to spend but it was a great choice for an upgrade ( similar menu system and gave me everything I felt I lacked with the A60 ) ... of course she'll then want to hop from that to a DSLR
Have a look for a Fuji Finepix S5500.
Fantastic camera, 4 megapixels and 10 x zoom.
You should be able to pick one up for around the £150 mark.

An ebay seller - bestpricetrading - has the Olympus refurbished and warranted C765 for £123.98 incl delivery. 10x optical, 4MP.

I wouldn't bother with the teleconverter, you'll lose too much in terms of sharpness. New camera is the way to go. Remember if it's more megapixels you'll be able to zoom digitally :)
