I have loads but:

Moulin Rouge R1- Just can't, dunno if it's the musicalness or Nicole Kidman.

Audition R3 - saw the piano wire bit and kinda haven't got the guts to watch it.

Perfect Blue R2 - One look at the animation and it put me off.

Bone Collector R1- LOL. Had this since release date and STILL can't get the entusiam to watch it.

If this keeps happening they will end up on TV before I get to see them:)

you should give Perfect Blue another chance :) and Audition when you're feeling brave, they are both really good films..

i have Cyborg and Cyborg 2 which will probably be sitting there a long time before i watch them!

Wow!! Some of you guy's really surprised me, when i buy a DVD the first thing i do when it pops through the letter box is to stick it in the player, If anything then to just check that the disc isn't faulty.

Robby
29-12-2001, 22:45
I'm the same Roberto. 99% of the time i will watch a new DVD within the first two days. (Don't really buy that many so i usually have the time) I've never bought a disc and left it unwrapped.

I tried the Carnival of Souls DVD but switched off after watching the trailers on it. I will get round to watching it sometime though.

Actually, come to think of it I haven't watched Blade Runner or Shawshank Redemption yet, mainly because they're to replace VHS copies.

Usually I watch discs the morning I get them.

Some were just purchased at a time when I got lots of others at the same time. I would have watched the others, but some get kinda forgotten.

Except Moulin Rouge which came on its own. And having seen Nicole on Top of the Pops with Robbie hasn't helped much either.

Silence of the Lambs - Got it for £15 in a Woolies sale, watched all the extras but can't be arsed to watch the film.

Alien Resurection - Got the cheapo boxset from Woolies, mainly for Alien and Aliens though I like Alien 3. Such a **** pointless film, can't be bothered with it.

Dogma SE - Dead chuffed about getting it as all the other KS films have great DVDs, lent it to a mate got it back and couldn't be bothered to watch it now I know it ain't dodgy.

Apocalypse Now - Got the original deleted cut from the PC World sale, banged on the Helicopter attack and haven't looked at it since last week.

Always check 'em to see if their dodgy but these are the types of films that I've gotta be in the right mood to watch. Apoc Now is pretty deep for a Saturday night, Alien 4 is crap, SOTL is pretty depressing at best and Dogma is on Sky so often it hurts.

There's just so many of 'em that I bought and never got round to - best intentions and all that... I tend to try and take just the ones I haven't watched to Uni with me to stop me re-watching my favourites... but the ones I haven't watched (despite having owned for at least a few months):

Silence Of The Lambs (both Criterion and new version are unwatched!)
Halloween (UK 2 Disc)
Hellraiser
Batman & Robin [grabbed all the Batman films from Play because they were cheap]
Gia (a friend said it was good, so I picked it up in the US, made her a VHS [it wasn't out to buy in Australia where she lives] and it's been gathering dust ever since!)
Bone Collector (saw it at the cinema, picked it up ex-rental at a Blockbuster in the US for next to nothing)
Cecil B Demented
Apocalypse Now Redux (watched an hour of it then never got round to the rest! D'oh!)
Girl, Interrupted (saw it at the cinema but never got round to the film itself on the DVD, just the extras)
Sleepy Hollow (picked it up cheap second hand)
Godfather 2 & 3 (one day I'll have the time)
Monty Python and The Holy Grail SE (time again!)
American Beauty (saw it three times at the cinema but never got the urge to watch the DVD!)
Blackadder Season 1 (never get past Episode 1)
Sleeping With The Enemy
Taxi Driver
Titanic (in a 2 for £20 deal)
Elm Street 4, 5 and 6... tried for a marathon section watching 1,2,3 and then never wanted to see the rest!

Damn! That's nearly 10% of my collection remaining unwatched! Need more hours in the day!

Joe Pasquale
30-12-2001, 00:40
Natural Born Killers R4, been sealed since April. Seen it a couple of times before.

Spinal Tap SE R1 has sat unwatched for quite a few months now, never seen this one... will go in before NBK I think. :)

Toy Story- I bought the ultimate box set because I wanted Toy Story 2 (hadn't seen it) & Toy Story 1 to replace my VHS & Laserdisc versions, watched 2 never got round to watching 1 again.

Magnolia- Had heard good things about this dvd, saw it going cheap at HMV, never been in the mood to watch a 3 hour film.

Once Upon A Time In China & New Dragon Gate Inn- I've started watching both, got interrupted, & never got round to finishing them (always a newer DVD arrived)

These will probably stay unwatched for a while yet, I just got Godfather Trilogy, Alien Legacy, MASH TV season 1, Babylon 5, Halloween, Forrest Gump, & The Shawshank Redemption. Its going to take me a while to get through these, plus others on pre-order for January. :D

Certainly for me (don't know about anyone else) it's a case of pre-ordering things and then when they get released either I don't have time to watch them and then something else is released which I want to watch more, or I pick it up cheap thinking I'll watch it sometime and never do!

hmm interesting topic and good timing also - I had some time off work over Christmas (moving jobs) so decided to go back revisit my collection - found a few I never bothered watching................and most I still havent

Most were bought in offers or because my card wanted to come out of my wallet and play (it does that sometimes)

Blade Runner DC
Hamlet
Moulin Rouge R4 (watched on plane on way home from Florida)
Silence of the Lambs (bought with Hannibal as part of R4 pack)
Holy Grail SE
The Mummy Returns R4 (its crap :))

There are more but cant remember

One I did watch though was The Big Lebowski, on 2nd viewing I really 'got it' and though it was funny as hell.

Gulp - I've currently got 187 DVDs I haven't watched (got it down from 240 in October last year). I get a lot through to review though, and do tend to preorder and buy things when they're cheap, and then they go on a list to watch. New Years' Resolution is to get it right down before the end of the year....

None whatsoever; what the bloody hell's the point in spending your cash on something you're not going to enjoy to the upmost? Every single purchase I've made has been something I know I'm going to watch, and it always amuses me that I get lambasted for owning "only" 50 odd DVDs by peeps with twice that amount sitting around untouched!

Hey, I'll enjoy them and watch them all. For me, it's just cheaper to get a disc in to watch than taking the two of us to the pictures to watch a film accompanied by the sound of rustling sweet papers and people nattering through the film. Plus many of my discs were accrued for very little cost through sales, review copies etc, and if I don't want to keep a film I can just trade it on, and it effectively works out at the cost of a rental.

And I'm not lambasting you at all - each to their own, I say. Just enjoy 'em!

It's that trap of ending up buying DVDs because they're a bargain rather than because you really want to own it. The bargain forum doesn't help :D.

Everything I've got I really do want to watch, but I do buy more frequently than I have time to watch them (plus I find I put off some films if I'm not in the mood for watching that particular film). I like buying films I've never seen before but might be interested in, but then I get into the habbit of putting it off because I've not seen it and just watch something I know instead.

Since then i have had less time and the collection has grown and the fact my ws tv is being fixed at the mo isn't helping. I'm not watching any ws dvds i have on my 14" portable. Shrek, American Psycho, blackadder back and forth and all the dvds i want (but haven't ordered cos i know i won't be able to watch them) are waiting to be watched. Heh, my post was aimed squarely at the "jeez, I've got 100 discs I just can't find the time for and another 10 on order, isn't life a bitch" crowd. Nothing wrong with buying before you've watched, then selling on if you don't like; it's good economics most of the time.:) But I just can't understand how some peeps can waste their cash (hunderd odd dics = must be at least a couple of hundred quid) so readily on something that just sits around doing no good ... and then blowing yet more cash to get more clutter!

Ones i've had for a while are the Serial Experiments Lain box set which ive never got around to finishing off, then theres Haunted Junction (another anime) which has the whole series aswell, i got the 10th Kingdom set, and the newly aquired (thanks to a certain sale) Godfather Set and Aliens set, ive seen all the alien films before but seeing them in high quality i havn't, maybe one day.

And its not just a matter of finding time to watch all these, its a matter of where do i find the bloody money to finance this madness?

Well I thought I was bad until I saw Simonb's post:eek:
Sound like you need to go on a DVD diet m8 :)

I have shocked myself slightly by just having a look through my collection to find 37 films unwatched. To be fair most of these are favourite films that are replacing VHS so its not like they'll never get watched. Having said that I have had Pee Wee's Big Adventure for nearly 2 years now and it hasn't seen the inside of a DVD player... hope its not faulty... do you think Reel.com will take it back?

I haven't seen Godfather II & III Yet, as it is very difficult to find 3-4 hour to watch the film as my Dad sleep in the afternoon nap and after 9.00pm and I hate watching films in mornings. Weekend is difficult as I love Spanish football.

I also haven't seen Harry Potter DVD yet even I own it for a fortnight as I want to read the book before watching the film.

I haven't watched the extras on Spiderman, Star Wars Attack of clone or Lord of the Rings extended cut or Pearl Harbor's director cut.

I recently seen Tora Tora Tora on vdeo which I tapped off TV. It is not nice to watch films without using speakers and amps :(

I don't own any discs that I've never tried to play (i.e even if its just to have a nose around the menus), but I've got some that I've tried to watch but switched them off.

Like Blade Runner (the Warner 'DC'), having never seen it before I was surprised at how uninspiring I found it (well, the first 30 minutes anyway) so ejected it. Same with The Godfather and Legend as both bored me early on. I've actually grown quite fond of the 'switch-off' practice, as I just can't afford to waste my spare-time on films I'm not enjoying. I've started renting a couple of discs at a time, as that way I can reject one if it's not doing anything for me.

I'll probably give the three I mentioned earlier another go sometime though (seeing as I own them)...

Never seen:

A year later and I still haven't watched it.

Now I've got loads more on top of those I had before.

Another I can never be bothered with is Magnolia which I've had for ages. It's a bit like the Godfather trilogy (also had for ages and not watched), the length puts me off. It's nothing to do with not liking long films, it's just when I get home from work a 3 hour film is a bit long. At the weekend I'm too busy being completely lazy and can't be bothered anyway :D.

Bought Platoon when it was re-released and I just can't seem to place the disc in the player. Dunno why.

It's funny because when it was on pre-order I was really looking forward to getting it. It just never seems the right time to watch it.

A few people have mentioned the Godfather trilogy - I got it ages ago when MVC were doing it for about £25 and have never got round to watching it. I know it's supposed to be one of the greatest film(s) of all time (and I've never seen any of them before), but I just can't be bothered.

I've had it since October 2001 when it first came out and I still haven't watched it! It's not because I can't be bothered - I want to watch them all in order so it;s difficult to find 3 free three hour tomeslots al close to each other, especially as I've got a soap addict girlfriend.

Yep - Godfather set for me too. I've had it for months and only managed to get through the extras disc, but the movies are a no-no. I've convinced myself that I just haven't got three hours to spare that often, although I've managed to watch FOTR:EE about five times since I bought it, and Titanic was viewed this very afternoon. I guess it's because the Godfather series are films that I grew up with, and they're so familiar that I can't be bothered to watch them again. Much like my R1 SE Gremlins 1 & 2 dvds - I've had these since they were released and I still haven't watched them because I know them inside out, I guess.

Mine are -

Demolition Man - had a dodgy surround amp when I bought the disc and always ended up switching it off. Never got round to watching it since I replaced the amp ... over two years ago!

The Shawshank Redemption - had a free copy from MVC when I bought my first player, but it had to go back with the player when it wouldn't play The Matrix when it came out. Bought another copy cheaply about 7-8 months ago.

Pulp Fiction - Bought a R4 copy over 2 years ago but the clip which holds the disc in the box managed to get caught between the two layers and I had to replace it. Still unwatched, and will remain so if I decide to replace that with the R2 2-disc DTS edition.

The X-Files Season 5 - Christmas pressie that I was going to start watching from Monday, but will have to go on hold whilst I'm moving house.

I just watched it last night (after having the dvd for well over a year)! :D I think Carlito's Way is a much superior movie. :smokin: I don't think Scarface is as good as the likes of the Godfather movies or Goodfellas.

The scene in Scarface where the drug deal with the Colombians doesn't go as planned is classic De Palma though.

Project A; Police Story 1 & 2; Armour of God; Snake in Eagle's Shadow; Magnificent Seven (gift). There's no rationale explanation to explain the non-viewing of these discs; just doesn't seem to be the right time.

At last count, I have 160 dvds that I haven't watched yet (regardless of whether or not I'd seen them before on another medium) I have decided to cut down drastically on new purchases, and concentrate on reducing that unwatched figure. I started doing this last week, but its going to be a long slog, and I'm going to have to resist the temptation of buying new releases. :D Its been fun though, revisiting older movies such as Scarface and Starman etc.

160 sounds like a bloody lot but I can understand how you manage to get up to such a figure because I myself is approaching the 20 - 30 mark ... something I wouldn't have dreamed of doing a year ago ...

Asoka - Picked this up cheap. Got 20 minutes in and it bored me to death. I haven't bothered trying again.

Its amazing how long it takes to catch up.

My problem is that I could only possibly watch one film a night after I get in from work and some of my more esoteric films are not the kind of the thing my missus wants to watch. She definately won't watch anything with subtitles (probably 30% of everything I buy).

I'm in the second day of two days off work to catch up on a few and figured out I can watch 4 a day if I really go at it - but then they stop being fun. So far have only seen 3 and need to go and watch another one now before lunch.

Probably still leave 15 or so unwatched - so near yet so far.

My problem is I keep buying DVDs at a rate faster than I watch them.

The main problem I've got at the moment is I get in from work fairly late, eat and watch a bit of TV, then it's getting a bit late to watch a 2 hour film, especially with the volume wacked up (neighbours go to bed at about 10 it seems, though when they're awake they can wack up their stereo very load).

TiVo's made things worse as I've got loads of stuff to watch that it records too. :oh-hum: :D

I think we've got the same problems - I forgot to mention my Sky+ as well.

Got to be honest though - the relatively small storage space in the Sky+ forces me to keep on top of it. In the bad old days of tape - I'd also have a stack of unwatched 240 min tapes to wade through.

I better not upgrade my TiVo hard disc then as I'll have even more stuff to watch! (especially as TiVo goes away and records all kinds of stuff it thinks you'll like) :D
