Just checking its not just my player,
but is the Sound completely out of Sync on the
R2 Ghost in the Shell?

I have the GITS on R2, but have never experienced this problem. I assume it must only affect certain players, because it plays fine on my Sony 735. (And on my Samsung DVD-ROM drive).
Many people, however, seem to have this sound-synch problem, so I guess I must be lucky.
EDIT: Having read kanedaa's post, I've gone and checked my copy of GITS. It has a 15 certificate printed on the front (but not on the spine), but nothing about being anamorphic. It also has a red sticker on it saying 'Bonus ROM Content', if that helps.
the very first batch of GitS R2 discs have perfectly fine audio but were pulled because they were missing '15' certificate logo on the disc (and most stores that sold them stuck a '15' cert sticker on them)...i think they possibly don't have an 'anamorphic' flag but thats not a problem unless you can't use a remote control :D I have GitS R2 from the first batch and can safely say its fine.
The corrected discs (with a 15 cert printed on them, and Anamorphic flag sorted) somehow got out of sync audio and Manga didn't bother to fix that (cos unlike the 15cert thing, its not illegal).
thats the story i heard anyways ;)

Yes. I hear their DVDs are the same as the R2 UK DVDs.
Sorry.
My copy does have the 15 Cert printed on it ( not on the spine though ) but I never heard anything out of sync. Mabye I didn't listen too closely?
Don't know.

the disc has been out for over a year, and the 'correct' batch was only on the shelves for a matter of weeks, if that! Practically every copy in the UK is faulty :D The 15 cert I refer too is missing on both the SPINE and DISC LABEL (its on the disc label stores stuck a sticker)
Ericf - all i'll say is DON'T listen for it! faults like this aren't noticeable by everyone, and on animation it tends to be harded to distinguish for the majorit of viewers....
R4 version - it doesn't have out of synch audio, but out of synch subtitles :D read the FAQ at Madman (http://www.madman.com.au/FAQ_View.php#Q22)..

I'll look into getting a R4 copy I think...

Just to clear up a few things about the original batch of R2 GitS discs :D cos I wasn't too clear previously.
The actual disc label is missing a '15 BBFC logo' - when i bought my copy in its place was a sticker of the '15 BBFC logo' which could be peeled off. The shops added this to make it semi-legal to sell. My DVD is also missing the '15 BBFC Logo' on the spine of the sleeve artwork. I also have the 'Bonus DVDRom content' sticker, although i think this is on all versions.
The disc content - Audio is fine, perfectly in synch. The disc is however missing an 'Anamorphic Flag'....this means that, unlike normal Anamorphic discs that on a Widescreen TV set to 'Auto Switch' mode will change the Aspect Ratio setting to 16:9 this disc does not, and leaves your TV in 'Smart/Just/Super Live' mode meaning you manually have to switch to your TVs 16:9 mode to get the correct picture format.
When they recalled and re-issued the R2 they fixed the anamorphic flag, added the 15cert logo on the disc label (and probably the spine) but screwed up the Audio sync (Japanese language only i believe).
The R4 has out of synch subtitles.
The R1 disc has no synch problems of any kind and therefore is the best release all round.

I found that both the English and Japanese tracks were out of sync (to differing degrees, and its not so obvious in some parts of the film) - on my version anyway...

Bloody Hell!
I had a look at that FAQ and discovered my new R4 version of 'Ninja Scroll' has fallen foul of the BBFC as it was mastered here!!!
I'm glad I haven't yet broken the sellophane - It's going right back!
It's shocking that discs for the Australian market suffer the same cuts as ones for here.

Get the R1 version of NS, I believe it's the best. I got it myself from Play, and apart from a slightly temperamental menu system, it's pretty good.

It's not just my copy then, i have the skip to the menu track otherwise it just hangs on a black screen with music repeating

It won't allow me to select Japanese with English subs (or anything else for that matter) from the language menu, otherwise it freezes. I have to start the main feature and make any changes from there.

I think I might have one of the first batch then. The DVD itself doesn't have the 15 cert printed on it. And I do have the Anamorphic Flag locked. My Computer DVD can't output it as regular TV. Only Widescreen TV.
