bought new JVC CRT 28" widescreen yesterday, and having only one proplem.

the integrated freeview is fine, as is the ntl signal

the problem is with my Panasonic E85 HDD/DVD recorder. There is picture distortion of constant diagonal lines moving across the screen. I didn't change the leads setup with the new telly - just put the 2 scarts from old tv into new tv. Also get the same problem with the terrestrial signal

Do you think this sort of thing can be solved with removing pin 19? I've read how it's done, but can't find a picture showing which pin is no.19 - anyone help? Perhaps I just need a newer/expensive scart lead?

Do you have an aerial RF connection to the E85 for the terrestrial channels? If so, does the interference effect disappear when you disconnect it?

Yes it can solve the problem.

Pinout (socket and connector) http://pinouts.ru/Home/Scart_pinout.shtml , the scart connector normally have pins 1,2,19,20 marked if you look carefully inside the connector.

You must only cut pin 19 at one tv end of the cable because it crosses over to pin 20 at the other end. If you cut pin 19 at both ends you remove the composite signal and so won't get a picture.

Cutting the 2 audio out pins (at the tv end) can also help.

You can probably use a small piece of electrical tape and some needle-nose pliers to mask over a single pin in the Scart plug if you're dexterous - saves ruining a good Scart cable if it turns out not to work.
