View Full Version : Allen green worst commentator ever!!
After hearing him again on the radio last night i have to say this man drives me crazy!!
I used to rate him but now instead of telling me what is going on in the game he just rams his personal Opinion of each player down our throats.
his dislike for beckham is way over the top i don't think he can manage a sentence with out slating him. Last night a few pro beckham people sent in comments on the show and he said that they are just fans where as he gives an honest opinion, so unless you agree with him you are some sort of blind fan. sorry for the rant but he really does my head in.
Actually I think he's a very good commentator, he's not like the super biased fools on the tv.
he is good if you want to hear his (normaly negative) opinion of players, refs and managers. If you want to know what is going on in the game he is gash! unless you hate beckham then he must sound good
Give me the likes of Green over the sycophantic idiots you get on tv any day.
OK he's not perfect but at least he is genuinely interested and passionate about the game

Alan Green is the most biased commentator, Martin Tyler excluded.
I take it you have never listened to him commentate on a Liverpool v Man Utd or a Liverpool v Chelsea match?
Alan Green actually has opinions on Football which I admire in commentators - tired of utter nobodies like John Champion or Peter Drury who think they should bore the **** out of me with stats, stats, stats.

I think Alan Green is also very good.
Rather listen to him than Drury, Motson, any of ITVs people, Gray etc.

The guy is a cock!
I think you'll find he is a total cock, not just a cock.
I much prefer Green to any of the TV commentators
Green would be a lot more bearable if he was banned from commenting on any match involving Liverpool.
As a commentator he is awful, but as a football pundit he is not bad.
When I listen to a game on the radio, I want someone to tell me what is going on in the game that I can not see, not a personal attack on a player who just miss hit a pass.
However once the game is finished & its phone in time etc, you need someone who will wind people up or get people agreeing with. This is what he should stick to.

If you listen to him a lot you'd know he is actually one of Liverpool's harshest critics IMO.
He's a *****.
hehe i never thought a silly combination of two swear words would be blocked.
He's biased git anyway.

I absolutely hate his commentary.
He is so negative all the time, and so self righteous

Whether you like him or not seems, to me, to be based on whether ..... when a Beckham freekick fails to get past the first defender for the umpteenth time, you want to hear how the freekicks have been woeful or you want to hear how unlucky he has been.
Alan Green is fine by me. He is opinionated but that's a good thing. And this is despite all the pops he had at Leicester City when Leicester City were considered worth having a pop at. :(

But I always wonder why he even bothers watching football. He so rarely seems to enjoy it.
By all means point out if someone has been disappointing, but all his 'this is just woeful' stuff just does my nut in. (see also Barry Davies - glad the BBC got rid of him from their commentary team for the football on TV a while back)

Neither do I that's probably why I quite like the bloke.
Leicester City + England = :(

I like Greeny! - Tells it like it is, and I very rarely disagree with him. None of the pussy-footing around of Motty, or the pure dementia ridden drivel of Clive "That night in Barcelona" Tyldesley, and Peter "embarassment" Pleat.
trouble with greeny is that even if the keeper makes a mistake he will blame beckham, the final straw came last night when he said peopled that did not agree with him about beckham were just fans (ie blinkered) but he is there to tell it like it is (he seems to think his view is the only one the means anything) like i said before he should try sticking to telling us what is going on in the game not get above himself and tell us how bad he thinks everyone is.

Green is a div. He is not a commentator, as he spends 50% of his time moaning, and 50% giving his worthless views on where players should be playing and what the manager should be doing.
The only duo I can think of who aren't total ***** are Tyler and Gray. Shame no-one used them during the WC..

Gray was getting on my nerves towards the end of the season, preaching about the need for referees to be more consistent, then moaning when the ref sent off Alonso so he would miss the FA Cup final, implying the referee should have factored that into his decision.
Alan Green thinks people listen to Five Live commentary to listen to him. The best commentators do that rare thing, commentate. Too many of them these days are trying to manipulate themselves into "stars" which is frankly laughable. Green an Gray are the worst examples of this imo.
I rarely listen to Alan Green, but negative commentary gets a  from me.
For the world cup I watch 111. It is so refreshing to hear Big Ron and chum slating the ref, Sven and players- pretty much what you're thinking.
Or you can have Drury and Pleat making excuses for a turgid England performance - you're thinking 'Shut the **** up!'
Alan Green used to be a really good commentator as he was opinionated, and was prepared to be critical of players, rather than the normal bland commentators (which you need on the radio, as you can't always tell if someone is having a mare or a stormer)
As rjw72 says, he now seems to have believed his own hype, and now believes that anyone that disagrees with his opinions about anything, is naive, or doesn't know the game as well as him etc... I think this may have at least partly orginated from the Bolton incident last season, where he upset the Bolton fans by crticising their style of play to the point where Bolton tried to ban him from the stadium. As I recall he kept making the point on 606 that the BBC were behind him 100%, and he obviously now thinks he's untouchable.
Mind you, anything he can do, Sepp Blatter can do 10x worse.

That's true.
What I meant was ... for someone who many believe is a supporter of the club, he doesn't half slag them off at times.

yes they have. martin tyler's on SBS.

for someone who many believe is a supporter of the club,
He is a supporter Bio of Alan Green (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alan_Green)
I cant stand Green either, he thinks he is more important than the game. I dont mind someone having an opinion but I dont want it forced on me, I want to hear about the game.

Commentators are becomming like DJ's. Spreading their opinions to influence public opinion. Peter Grant used to be a old friend of my Bro's and he said that DJ's were a cancer to the music industry (hence why Led Zepp never released singles). I feel and it was evident after the last England match, they are becomming the same.

But that is what some fans do - slate their own cflub half the time.

Yes Green is a huge Liverpool fan and only criticises him them in the way a fan would. And he hates Manchester United in a way that only a Liverpool fan could. He has always hated Beckham - even when DB was England's best player - Green would always say he's overrated no matter what he did. By contrast he will not attack any Liverpool player in the England squad - Gerrard, Crouch and Carragher (a particular fave) are immune from criticism.
thats my point about him instead of hearing about the game you just hear his waffle and if poeple don't agree with him he just dismisses them as just fans

George Best, a Man U legend, said the same IIRC.
and Carragher (a particular fave) are immune from criticism.
purely a matter of opinion but, without a doubt, Carragher has been the most consistent defender in the Premiership for the last 2 years.
When I last listened to Radio 5 in the days before Sky I always thought Allan Green was a Manchester United fan.

Yes a matter of opinion but the kind of opinion only a Liverpool fan would hold.

Sometimes I sit and listen to Allen Green and think he's the last rational voice in football; other times, I want to hold the noose for the lynch mob.
This morning, he said something which startled me; he holds the view that Sven's outburst on 'the Golden hope of English football' will (a) only put more pressure on the boy, and (b) serves to feed the media frenzy (leading to more of (a)).
Still thinking about that one...

Sven put all the pressure on him by making it such an issue that he had to take him in the squad, fit or otherwise

I'll agree with this
Certainly made the worst game of last season Bolton V Birmingham tolerable

Hasn't fat Sam banned him as a result of the comments he made about Bolton Wanderers?
