View Full Version : Space 1999 on itvHD Now
Well, that supprised me, flipping through the channels and now watching Space 1999 in HiDef
A Little bit of noise in the background/colour, but actually dam good I think.
No idea if it's been upscaled, or they've re-mastered the original.
Ahhh, memories :)
Just to follow up (did not realise it at the time) It was the 1st ever episide (where they got blown out of earths orbit)
Following on from what I said above, It did look DAM GOOD in HD (or whatever) Actually like a new show. Quite refreshing :)

One wonders if they used the Beta masters used for previous transmissions, and indeed DVD releases, or the new HD masters specifically created from the originals and which were used to create the new DVD set from Network (obviously, still in standard def but looking very good)
The question is - are the ITV-HD ones looking better simply because they're making best use of the previous ones, or have the gone the whole hog and are using the genuine HD editions?
Do you know what it was shot in originally?
Not film I guess, as there were no sparkly bit like you get in films (unless you clean them up)
It did look very clean, and (as I said) apart from, a little noise if you looked close on drak backgrounds colours (and I'm being fussy there) it did look very good

It will have been shot on film - what ratio is it showing in?

According to that article the ratio should have been 16:9 but with black bars at the side, I didn't get a chance to see it, so don't know what they actually did.

If it looked good then they must have used the new cleaned up HD masters, as the old SD masters would have looked rubbish.
How do you get ITVHD out of interest? Can I get it through my Sky HD box?

No, you need either to be on Telewest cable or part of the HD freeview trial in London.

It was full Widescreen on my Hi-Def LCD. No black borders anywhere.
I'm supprised it was film as I said there were no film sparklies or anything, so I assume it much have also been cleaned up too.

Yes it was VERY good actually.
To be honest, it looked like a new show.
Apparently (from someone on another forum):
"Granada International have remastered it from the original film recording."
