I Have Just watched nightmare on elm street part 5
on region 2 dvd and i noticed a few cuts that have been made to
one of the murders . the murder is when freddy kills one girl
by feeding her and then removing the contens of her stomach
and forching it down her throut .
this sceen is in my old video version but why is it not in this version there are no cuts listed on the BBFC web site
can eany one give me more info one this.
The UK R2 dvd versions are the same as the R1 US versions of the films. Both Nightmare 1 and 5 were cut in the US to gain an R rating from the MPAA. Both were left uncut 18 certs in the UK (distributed on video by Fox). EiV have obviously used the US master tapes from New Line to create the R2 dvds.
Nightmare 1 has a short cut where Tina falls from the ceiling and spashes into a pool of blood. The big splash is heard but not seen. The UK VHS video version left the scene as intended by Wes Craven. The cut is actually discussed on the dvd commentary.
Nightmare 5 has even more cuts where Alice's b/f is 'consumed' by the motorbike various shots of metal invading skin are cut slightly. Also as mentioned Greta's death is cut - especially the shot where Freddy cuts open the doll on the tray and blood runs out. The MPAA had a big problem with that shot! Again the UK VHS version is uncut!
The DVD versions are the final release versions in the US but in this case the UK actually originally got the stronger versions of these films!
EiV though are just too cheap to acquire the correct masters for the dvd versions they released. Hell, they are too cheap to make sure the Elm Street boxset even contains all the movies!
I was getting the R2 box set till I realised that only 5 out of 7 film were in it. So I ordered the R1 8 disc set and I ahve to say it's one of the best purchases I have made. Well worth the £85.oo I spent on it.:brickwall
