I have had a hard-on for M Ward since domain introduced me to him a few years back.

This is his most lavishly produced LP to date, with a full backing-band 'fleshing out' his sound, but he still retains the incredibly delicate, yet beautiful medlodies, that have haunted his back-catalogue to date.

Wonderful, wonderful stuff, and my favourite of the year so far

I can never remember if it's M Ward or M Craft, but whoever did that Dead Man track I need to check out more of their stuff.

This doesn't sound good...especially the use of the word "lavish". I'd quite happily settle for Mr M Ward doing his thing for evermore without wishing to grow/develop/experiment etc "... :)

...before you know it, next it'll be Iron & Wine remixes... :suspect:

Some of that M Craft stuff sounded good too...btw.

It's lavish by M Ward's standards mate, so not bleedin Queen or anything :p

The root is still the same, but there is just a little more oomph, with guest backing singers, and a few more instruments.

I think it is his best album, but it is his most commercial album by far - take that as you will.

I was only joshing....I suspect it's more like the difference between Elliot Smith's 'Either/Or' and 'Figure 8'...different but oh so right.

Anyway, M. Ward's not made a mistake yet so the album will be in the shops with a "Buy With Confidence - Whiting" sticker..............at least in my universe.

Can't find this CD anywhere. Got into M Ward after his "Fuel for Fire" performance on Jools. Made the hairs on the back of the neck stand up.

:notworthy

I agree with Lou - this is a great, great album... Sure there's a few more flourishes on the record, but it doesn't detracte from his guitar playing and haunting vocals... A perfect summer album, shame he couldn't bring the official release date forward a little!
