I recently added the budget Wacom Volito 2 (http://www.my-volito.com/volito/intro.asp?lang=en) graphics tablet to my wish list at Amazon.co.uk (http://www.thedvdforums.com/jump2.php?url=http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/ASIN/B0009H7XAY/thedvdforums-21) after seeing it win a group test in Computer Shopper (http://www.computershopper.co.uk/labs/221/graphics-tablets/products.html). I noticed last night that the price had dropped from the mid 30's to 28 pounds, which seemed like a bit of a bargain, and thus placed an order using one of my recent 5 pounds off 20 pounds or more vouchers which took it down to just over 22 pounds with super saver delivery. I've never really used a graphics tablet, but such a low price for a well reviewed product seemed like a no-brainer and it will hopefully rekindle my artistic skills

Thanks, gone for one of these. Been waiting for them to come down since the computer shopper article too. Cheapest I can find elsewhere is ~34

Since when has that been part of the criteria for buying a bargain?

My order arrived earlier today, which was pretty good performance from Amazon for a super saver delivery!

The tablet is well presented in its box, and looks even sleeker when unpacked! There's an interactive tutorial on the installation CD covering the basics of the interface. Using the pen feels surprisingly like drawing on paper, particularly when starting to do arty things using the pressure sensitivity feature rather than simply navigating around the PC desktop. The only major downside is the relatively poor feel of the two buttons on the pen, primarily used as shortcuts for right and double mouse clicks: left clicks are achieved by tapping the pen against the tablet (and you can tap twice for a double clip if prefer), which feels a bit awkward at first but quickly becomes intuitive. Setting the pressure sensitivity in order to achieve a suitable balance between light (but not so light that they don't register!) and heavy strokes is also a bit tricky initially, but with some practice it will no doubt become easier.

It's a very impressive device overall however, and my optical mouse already feels rather imprecise in comparison!

Cheers OP

Recently showed my interest in this model on the Computing forum, never got round to buying it but no reason not to go for one now.

Perfect time to learn Illustrator and Photoshop.

Do these things have an option to use an external power source? Would like to use this on my laptop except the USB port has problems with non powered devices.

Nope, it only has a USB connection.

Woohoo! 1000th post at last :dork:

Pity these aren't Mac compatible? Would love to use it on my new Mac Mini (see other threads)

I'm thinking about this - I'd like to use it in graphics apps, but my mouse for everything else. Is it possible to do that, or is it a straight mouse replacement for everything? Cheers.

It works alongside your mouse (as long as you have a spare USB port)

Out of interest how is everyone getting on with these? tempted to pick one up as I'm using photoshop a lot and I often find my mouse a bit clumsy...

Don't use mine often, but when I do I am glad I have it. That's why I bought one at £28, and not at £60+.

For the price, it's fine to purchase and use it only a few times a year for me.

Bought one from this offer.

Played with it for a day or two and then realise I can't even draw !

Not a waste of money, because it got me interested and i bought a book on drawing and now practice when I can. Will definately use this when I get better.

Kicks ass as I mouse replacement. The fact that you dont even have to touch the pad to navigate the pointer really WOWed me at first for some reason.
