So we have to wait a bit longer for this <s>betamax</s> Blu-Ray machine now? ;)

Pfff. Glad I switched to the HD-DVD camp. These delays and the negative feedback regarding the Samsung player and the first batch of titles are enough to make a grown man weep.
Machines delayed?
What about this then?

Erm, thats' *sony* machine delayed.
As keen Blu-ray supporter, I have to say i'm very dissapointed with the Blu-ray performance. It has even crossed my mind to consider HD-DVD again (something i've been against when I read the comparison on paper).
It's early days yet. Now the players are out, the ironing out begins. The longer they delayed the players, the longer the ironing out process takes. I don't think it'll be till 2007 before we see the Blu-ray/HD-DVD push begin.

Looks like Sony have been promising more than they can deliver again. I was a big supporter of BR until 9 months ago. 50gig vs 30 - must be better! More special features, more harware manufacturers means more choice of players. It's all fallen apart though: from region coding to ICT to not being able to actually 50gig discs out of the lab to using Mpeg2 instead of mpeg4/VC-1 and now not even being able to get their own machine ready for launch.

We now know why Bluray needed the extra capacity, because they are using MPEG2!!
DigitalBits is reporting that Dual Layer discs have now been pressed!

DigitalBits is reporting that Dual Layer discs have now been pressed!I'd be interested to hear what their success rate is now. The last I heard it was too low for commercial dual layer discs to be a feasible option.
Maybe if the backer's of whatever format push as many movies/video games out so the public have more choice on what to buy, that will decide what format will be more popular. Maybe if Microsoft included a HD-DVD player in their XBox 360 right from the start, HD-DVD would be the winner as they would have nearly a year head-start from Blu Ray on the PlayStation 3
