Tut! I was quite enjoying it too (patchy acting excepted), but I must confess that the last ten minutes lost me completely.
He was in hospital after allowing himself to get beaten-up and his girlfriend threatened to turn him in if he didn't quit the casino (okay so far). THEN all kinds of crazy illogical and unexplained things happened- his girlfriend was dead (why was this? why did that guy say "I loved her"?). Bella appears to be living with him now (how did this happen exactly? did I miss something?) there was another scene with a "white witch"(?!) woman that had implausibly bought his car (were we supposed to know who she was? who was she?). His book was out too and the very end of the film was another "Eh?" moment for me.

I'll probably be relentlessly flamed but I'm willing to take the risk. It may be blindingly obvious, but I simply didn't get it...... Any ideas?.

I enjoyed it rather a lot. My abiding memory of the ending was that the twist revolved around how Clive Owen's father and Alex Kingston had set him up from the start, having been in league together, and the rest seemed to make sense according to that hypothesis.

Yes that's right and that's probably the only bit of the finale that made any sense at all. I don't see how all the disjointed stuff I mentioned in my first post is explained by that revelation alone though.

Still confused!....
